Expetition terminal on the Anomily
I found the expedition terminal but i'm very unsure of how expeditions from it function.

I'd appreciate an explanation very much.

There are some great You Tube vids on the subject that explain how expeditions work. It would take pages of text to do it here.

If there's an active expo, you can start it from a current save via the terminal.

It's also where you can transfer things from an existing save into the expo & where you collect the items you transferred back from the expo to the save you started it from.

If you started an expo on a new save from the main menu, it doesn't do anything.

It's pretty basic.

Is the expedition terminal the same as the Nexus?

The expedition terminal is in the Nexus

No, it isn't.
The Nexus is the central terminal, where one can start missions:

The expedition terminal is behind it, to the right (but to the left of the QS merchant).

If you are a beginner and/or you don't have a lot of resources yet and/or you don't have the time to play two NMS saves at the same time, start the expedition at the terminal in the anomaly.
A tip for free ;) - Don't take too many tech upgrades with you. Don't take too many resources with you. You don't need them anyway.

I wish I had known this... so I could have used any char to start the expedition.

You still play the expo as a separate character, but you can transfer over some resources to help speed things up. You have to reach the Anomaly to before you claim them though.
You can also make a copy of your ship(s) and multi-tool(s) in exchange for some nanites.

You can transfer ships and MTs back to the primary save (anytime), and transfer items/resources back once you've ended the expedition (ideally before you fully end via the terminus).

Little tip: you can keep all the free inventory expansions you earn from expo missions to transfer them instead. Relics earns ~35 exosuit expansions, so that's a nice boost if you haven't already maxed your inventory in the primary save.
I tend to bring a Matter Beam and Temporal Warp Computer (or now Atlantid Drive) so I can use a freighter to access storage rooms.... It makes is easy to manage with limited exosuit slots during the expo

Thanks, I appreciate it.

You can only do it once from each save. I like to do the expedition from a new save first, then do it from my main save when I figure what resources are needed. If you want to take a ship or weapon with you, you need nanites to buy them - so take something you can convert into nanites also.

A few points about running Expeditions from existing saves not yet mentioned:
  • You can switch back to playing your normal main save and go back to the Expedition at any time as often as you want.
  • Any items (tool/ship/tech/cargo) you take into an expedition are not immediately accessible. You need to warp once and summon the Anomaly to collect these items from the terminus during the expedition.
  • At the conclusion of the Expedition, you can transfer items back to the main save, and you are not limited to the small inventory space provided. You can export, switch back to main save, collect, switch back to expedition, rinse and repeat before you close the expedition.
  • Anything you do during the expedition is rewarded in either Nanites or :nmsunits: at the end. You will make vast quantities of Nanites for your mainsave.

Note:
You have to make it to the Anomaly, inside the expedition, first.

Once you have access to the terminal you can toggle back to your main game, play that for a bit, toggle to the expedition, play that for a bit.
