I did a test, warp to system, build ship, upgrade to find all supercharged slots, take picture with phone, reload. That's how I got my "best" base stats fighter.
But, I won't be doing it again, I always fly my sentinel...
Even if there are minor differences...you are not going to roll some secret sauce that leaps over the bell curve of S class attributes. It would be cool if that was a "gamble", but pretty sure HG would have plugged that if it was a feature.
The unfortunate part of building a ship, is once it is not a problem, you don't really care anymore. Built this...never flew it. Just don't really care and realistically, I like the shorter/smaller ships so I can run to the station guys faster.

Although any S class ship is pretty OP, you may want to do some station hopping to find a good slot layout.
Does the ship size actually make any difference to where you're positioned when you get out of the ship? If it does, then I've never noticed... or do you mean it saves you a fraction of a second not having a nose to step around?
You could build as many exact copies of that ship as you'd like, at that station. Move to a different station, your stats will change. If you're looking for something specific, just take those same parts & try them in every station until you get something you like. You can always go back to a station as well. They won't change just because you left the system or logged out.
Aha, makes sense, boy i've visited a lot of stations, guess i'll keep looking around
Honestly, it's mostly nitpicking & how much of your time do you want to waste looking. I'll go to 3 or 4 & there's always a satisfactory build in one of them. You can waste a lot of time looking for a "perfect" station when you've passed a bunch that were so close that you'd never realize the difference unless you were obsessing over numbers that don't paint a complete picture anyway.
But that's all your call. I like to scan all fauna & I don't care about the nanites. So sometimes I'll spend 3 days looking for that last rare underground critter. Doesn't make sense, it's a waste of time, it's not worth the nanites, yada yada yada. Doesn't matter, just like finding that perfect station. Sometimes you just want to & that's cool. As long as you're aware you're hunting for something that's fairly insignificant in the big picture & you're doing it for yourself or for the hunt, not the numbers.
Don't waste time looking for a golden unicorn. If you find a build with four super charge slots within a 3x3 square take it.
