You aren't unlocking Void Eggs, you are purchasing one,
It doesn't work with fireworks either.
all the build parts, gestures, banners, etc., can be obtained for free so long as you have enough QS to cover the cost. Those rewards are unlocked for all saves, so you can reload after purchasing them, then you get your QS back and can simply go and claim the now unlocked reward for free.
It does not work for single-use items such as Void Eggs or fireworks, because you only get an item, not a blueprint, so undoing the purchase by reloading will simply remove the item from your inventory...
OP said they purchased the Void Egg twice, so they'd have had to have the QS to do so. But reloading would have undone the purchase entirely. Which is not what they were expecting.
