Backpack upgrades
Hello all, it's been a very long time since I last played this game, but one thing that bothered me was that whenever I used that "radar thingy" to look for backpack upgrades, it would often lead me to a location that I've already been to.

Has there been any update to this? Does it still work like this?

Use your compass on planet. You can look on the Discoveries page to see where your marker is in relationship to the planet. Usually not important unless you already happen to be at the Northest North. It is confusing at the poles to see it switch from traveling N to S and flying straight and level. It makes sense, but we rarely spend quality time watching the compass, so you phase in enough to realize..."wait, I was flying North, how did it change to South?"
I don't think I've ever used exocraft to scan for drop pods. I know they can (and other things) but I just almost never use exocraft. Heh.

Are you hitting the, uh, map marker thingie? The way I do it I feel like as long as I do that I'm not sent to one I've been to before. Or at least, never to one that doesn't have a pod that needs repair. I sometimes wonder if it's reusing ones I've been to....

I always get enough of the navigation data to initially trade for some drop pod maps and use those. Each map marker gives me another navigation data and I keep repeating. Or in Abandoned Mode, some of the stations or planetside trade pods sell them.

If you are referring to drop pod, its better max 3 times to search in each planet.
It even better only 1 for each planet.
That way you always got the drop pod ready to claim.

I've gone to 5-10 drop pods on a single planet many times... I've maybe once (if ever) been sent to one I've used before...
But I use the charts, not the exocraft radar (if you dont want to buy them with nav data, you can find them for sale from trading terminals in some systems, and they're also very common as guild mission rewards)

The way I do it :
1. Arrive in new system
2. Go to space station, upgrade my backpack slot (need money)
3. Go to Anomaly, upgrade my backpack slot (need money)
4. Use Exosuit upgrade chart, upgrade my backpack slot (need material)
5. Go to another system, repeat from no.1
I am to lazy to scour the planet for drop pod.

But later on i become more lazy and farm Exosuit Expansion unit :) especially with freighter, storage slot no issue and from the beginning the one i open always tech slot first.

Using the charts, I've gotten pretty much the entire max backpack inventory and tech slot on one planet. Not desolate moons, but toxic, lush, etc. If you want to do this, pick a planet you don't care about exploring after, because the landscape and scanner will be filled with used-drop-pod icons in the sky etc. >.> Edit: it is probably randomish whether you could get all on a single planet, but I don't think it's that uncommon.

Is it a *fun* way to get them all? Not even remotely. But a couple hours, maybe three, if you're the all at once type. these days I usually just do about 20-25 charts to get a head start then just wing it from there.

As you clear Drop Pods, the frequency with which you hit 'already visited' pods goes up.
However, I have completely expanded the Inventory of the Exosuit on a single planet.

As I finished up the frequency of 'repeats' was still only roughly 1:6. Which, to me, was 'acceptable', though kinda right at the limit.

You can suppress a lot of the duplication if, at the start of any 'slot search session' after your first, you displace away from your base by a quick sub-orbital flight before popping your first map or triggering your first scan.
After that, do a quick "pop,n,drop" any time you hit a repeat pod.

I'll add to this that expeditions are often a great way to get lots of expansion modules too.
When you claim a reward that expands inventory, just cancel out of the menu instead of unlocking slots and you'll get modules instead. (I bring a matter beam and freighter atlantid drive so inventory space is not an issue)
I've been slowly working through the Relics expedition (in my new save from Titan expo) and have 25 modules saved for transfer back to the main save already, and likely still have some more with phase 5 rewards...
From my experience, you can keep hitting drop pods on the same planet as long as you don't reload. As soon as you reload it will start sending you to pods you already hit. It's like the game keeps a temporary buffer of visited places that gets dumped on reload. At that point you may as well go to another planet. If you go to the other side of the planet you can pick up a new trail but sooner or later it will loop back to pods you already hit.
