Issues with the ingame voice audio
since the last update, the female computer or Ai voice blows my eardrums out. 5000 times per game session the "units received", "warning, incoming storm" etc. is extremely loud. i set music and sfx to 5% and have windows overall volume on 50%, but i just can't find a way to adjust the ingame voice. not multiplayer voicechat, just the singleplayer voice from your suit or whatever that is supposed to be.

its honestly infuriating. does anyone know how to fix this? i could not find any option to adjust it, and i do not want to turn all sounds off. even on lowest settings it just feels like stabbing my ears with a knife, especially since i already have a tinnitus. please help.

Turn the entire system volume down, and then raise the music and sfx up to re-balance.

If you have to turn sfx down to 5% to make it comfortable, that means you have your system volume way too loud.

EDIT: By system volume, I mean the speakers/headphones.

i do NOT have my system sound/speaker/windows etc too loud. i have no issue with any other game, and had no issue with NMS up until the last update.

is that really a solution, to turn my system sound to 5% and rebalance EVERYTHING (2nd screen etc...) just because there is no option for the UI voice? that is unacceptable.

its as bad as the now fixed flying into freighter earblaster was. but that only happened 10 times per session, not 100000 times.

I dunno why it's going so wrong on your system, on mine it's the same as it ever was.

Try scanning for corrupt files? I dunno. It's something specific to your system.

BUT: Until they fix it or some other workaround is found, I'd imagine that the above fix I mentioned is better than getting your ears blasted out, no?

not only my system. found reports of the same issue in tech-requests and bug section as well. it feels like the earblaster when entering freighters which was a issue for a long time. i hope this will be fixed sooner

apparently it is fixed in the experimental branch, but its not. it still makes my ears bleed. it overrides all ingame sound settings and is just at 100% all the time

Don't get me wrong, I hope they do fix it, but like I said...

In the meantime, the above solution I posted is better than causing physical damage to your ears.

I once used a Razer Banshee and I had this problem with every single game ever that I'd get ear-blasted the first time I opened the game and had to turn the sound way down to 10% or less to get comfortable volume.

Razer wasn't kidding when they named their headphones "Banshee" because those damn things were like putting your ears up against a 10ft tall sub.

So, I know the kind of problem you're having, though sadly the Banshee had no such on-headphone volume control IIRC, so I wasn't even able to do anything but turn the volume down in Windows down to almost nothing.

since i have my tinnitus, i avoid using headphones. but certain frequencies are super painful when they can't be turned down. so for now, i might just play something else until its fixed.

i really do not see why i should fiddle with my entire windows system settings for each app i am using, just because the "units received" lady is yelling at me. turn all down, play NMS, turn all up. quit NMS turn all down again and system sound up.... nah
it's a common issue, can even hear it in NMS twitch streams for those that don't believe it. It needs dealt with by Hello Games and I've no doubt it will be at some point, but just because someone's either not noticed or experienced it doesn't mean it's not happening or a user-error issue

Honestly, lowering the windows system volume is not hard to do... if you know you normally keep it at 50%, lowering it down to like 20% takes like 5 seconds to do and once you're out of the game, putting it back up to 50% is another 5 seconds.

But, if you'd rather just not play the game at all.... sounds a bit weird, but you do you I guess.

i have other stuff running, discord, streaming on 2nd screen etc. i would have to re adjust all that, plus readjust ingame sound in NMS. and when i quit playing i have to readjust everything again.

besides, i also really do not see any point of going through the hassle. its 2025. shouldn't proper sound options be standard on any game? like why is there no voice audio slider?

i honestly thought someone had a real solution like "go to exp branch, check new menu option, issue fixed" or launch options or whatever. for me "just adjust your windows volume" is not a solution.

i rather go do some monster hunting and wait for a real solution.
I'm playing the game and I'll have a look. It might not have an effect in some situations.

I can confirm the ear-ringing freighter entering; System volume is kept at 10% and most other sounds in NMS are comfortable (with some exception for the pitchy tone-holds passed-off as 'music'). NMS having this audio playback issue is nothing new. Also worth mentioning that, after Worlds 2, seems like some other audio wasn't behaving properly either. An example being the fauna they is only presented as a trail of steam fissures popping out of the ground.
An older example would be with exotic starships and solar sails, where the direction/distance isn't simulating right to the point where it just plays without such adjustments.

yeah, but since the last update, the freighter eardrum blaster seems fixed. others report this as well. but they build in a new ear bleed audio glitch, now having the UI voice being at 100%. and yeah, while entering a freighter was sometimes super loud, it happens like once every hour or so.

with the "new" UI audio being at 100% it happens every 30 seconds. every scan, every storm warning, every other thing your suit says is screaming at me with full force. and no way to change any audio setting, since the suit/UI voice apparently is neither "music" nor "sfx". Just let the student intern build a volume slider for voice output. should be done in no time.

or give me the freighter sound glitch back. i'd rather take ear bleed every hour compared to every 30 seconds.

Some of the Experimental fixes from 26/3 didn't make it into the main patch, presumably because they were ineffective.

yeah i have seen that, but even in the experimental branch, u can set everything to 0% and the UI voice still blasts your ears out. and sadly its a high pitched sound too, so right now, for me with tinitus its basically unplayable. every 30 seconds i feel like my ears get stabbed with icepicks
