What does your mission log say?
See:
https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/The_First_Traveller#Aftermath
When I completed this mission, I was making a decision, I may be wrong or not, but as I am passionate about this game and was so focused on the game and my actions (sometimes without paying attention to what the mission actually said) I ended up making this decision to leave it there in that "reality". (sorry my english, im using translator)
Well, they explain to you that eventually Artemis Will realize he in a false reality all alone for all eternity, and will literally be horrified and in a place worse than hell
Which is why II have no problem allowing him to R.I.P.
I don't care for that "prediction".
It assumes that the "current" technological level of everything will never change for all eternity.
While it seems more realistic to think that technology in that universe will keep improving and advancing (much like here on our "real" planet Earth).
Indeed, various updates to the game do indeed bring "technological advancements" into that universe (such as the Pressure Membrane and the Aqua-Jets).
It seems fair to me to think that one day some new technology will allow Artemis to "visit" the "real world" (the NMS universe); or have visitors in that "false" universe.
These type of trope has already been explored in sci-fi:
* The short-lived TV series Dark Matter has a very-similar storyline and explores the concept.
* Star Trek Voyager "developed" portable technology to allow the holo-doctor to travel and move around the "real world" even from outside the range of the starships holo-generators.
Perhaps giving Artemis the "false" universe is extending his life and a future technology will allow Artemis to not have to be alone.
While it is certainly a gamble - to me it isn't realistic to believe that Artemis will NEVER be able to either have companionship or visit the "real world".
Some future technology might come along and help with that.
TLDR: It doesn't seem so cut-n-dry that Artemis will "forever" be alone.
Get into space and start using the pulse drive, that should get somebody contacting you
I've done this million times, no use...
There may be a detail you've missed about what exactly the current step is...
according to the wiki:
Did you talk to Polo after your decision?
There are only three primary missions in my log. Two of them have an anomaly icon. One of them says: "Purchase Technology Blueprints and new baseparts..."
The second one says: "Share the burden of Artemis' fate with Nada" But I've already done this!
