Pirate Dreadnought
I read a post on reddit about that encounter, saying it is guaranteed after warping through 3 pirate galaxies.

I did try and it worked as stated ( I did 10/15 fights in a row ).

Yesterday I tried to trigger the encounter again, but no luck so far ( I warped through 30/40 pirate galaxies ).

Did they change anything or it's just bad luck?

ps: If there's a better way to get the event, please tell!

I hope you're not warping using a freighter. It only works while warping in your spaceship. And there's a cooldown of about half an hour for this event to be triggered again.

if you are hunting for s class there is an easier way. save your game before each warp and only warp to high wealth systems until a pirate battle spawns. then if it's not s class reload the game and every time you warp into that system it will spawn a battle with a random class ship. the trick is to make sure you save TWICE before warping so when you exit your ship after the battle you can reload your save and try again for a different class. you see you don't HAVE to warp into pirate systems to get one to spawn it just makes it more guaranteed. High wealth systems have a higher chance to spawn S class ships.

Ahah no, I was only warping with my spaceship!

Excellent! Thank you!

This is only a better approach if you are dealing with a regular freighter battle...
For dreadnoughts, you can find systems in which dreadnought battles are triggered literally every time you warp into the system.
These permanent spawn points are relatively common (in hostile systems, not just outlaw ones), so if you find 2 or more close together, then you never have to reload... you just warp back and forth between them. This method allows you to earn some units, nanites and rep with each battle (instead of getting absolutely nothing like you do with save scumming)

Also, if you want an S class, then outlaw systems (5% chance for S class) are better than 3-star systems (2% chance)... (2-star has 1% and 1-star has 0%)
outlaw systems also have the highest chance for C class (85%), so don't be surprised if you mostly see those... just be patient, you will get an S class eventually

Also, worth noting that the claim about getting a dreadnought encounter every 3rd outlaw system is not true in my experience (and I mostly visit outlaw systems).
Outside of the permanent dreadnought spawn points, freighter battles are triggered once every 3hrs + 5 warps...

I have system where dreadnought always spawns, can share coords later

They are pretty common... in my experience about 10-20% of hostile systems are permanent dreadnought spawns...
In every save, I locate 1 for each race in close proximity so I can bounce between them for easy rep (as well as units and nanites) as I search for an S class freighter or gather freighter tech modules.
And if I care to be selective about which race operates my freighter, I'll locate at least 2 for that race in close proximity.

Found a A tier yesterday!

It’s fascinating how well built is the pirate freighter compared to the other ones ( my favourites are the pirate dreadnought and the flat one with dents on the sides, but couldn’t find a black one with 3 series of dents so far ).

I’d gladly accept some cords for a spawning spot ( and eventually for the other one I mentioned ).

You can repaint your freighter... it costs 5k nanites to unlock each colour (standard prices)
Dreadnoughts only have stripes of that can be recoloured though, they will always be mostly black

And yeah, the dreadnought was added to the game in 2023, so the model is more detailed. It also only became obtainable by the player last year...

Yeah you're right!
I tend to forget that since the starship customization is literally zero, while the freighter allows a small customization in terms of colors ( though so far I just happened to find a single class C with 6 dents ).

You can use dreadnought battles as a means to get the large size civilian freighters (venators/sentinels)...
The civilian freighter the dreadnought is attacking will always be the same style in a given system, and afaik it's always the largest size design (though the inventory size is entirely random).

The dreadnought will be free (if you force surrender), but the civilian freighter will have to be purchased (assuming you saved it from destruction)
