Newbie advice Atlas path and when stepping through the final portal
This is all for normal mode.

The last Atlas interface was really, really buggy. It crashed all the time and an Atlas interface was blocking my way out. No way around, no possibility of building something, summoning something or teleporting out of that misery. No way of reloading from a point before the Atlas interface. I did some research and I was not the first to be stuck in an Atlas interface, though there couldn't have been that many either...

So, here is my first advice: Finish the Atlas path before the Artemis path. If you do it the other way, it may get buggy.

Second advice: I found no solution online to get out of the Atlas interface. I ended up killing myself in the game by repeatedly using the jetpack and letting me fall till my health was at zero. I respawned in the system's space station WITH my inventory actually intact. If you are the cautious type, you may move your inventory first though, before killing yourself.

After the last Atlas interface you can presents wonders to other Atlas interfaces. That may be fun at first, but the Atlas eternal path may never.

Third advice: If you are not in desperate need of nanites, you may stop doing the Atlas eternal path at any time.

Then I moved on and eventually found the so called last portal. I activated it and stepped into the portal. Big mistake... One is transported to another galaxy and all tech (exosuit, ship, multi-tool) is damaged and needs repairing. Furthermore, I spawned at a freezing hell-hole planet without ship, freighter or base. Surviving under these circumstances is a challenge.

Fourth and last advice and I'll be brief as this topic has been mentioned in detail by others before, but it is imo worth saying again and again, because the game does not give any warnings: Either deinstall all tech before going through the portal or use spare ship/multi-tool and then basically scrap it on the other side asap. And have the resources to repair basic exosuit and ship functions, respectively, on you.

or refuse the atlas, get sent to a new system anyway without needing to repair a thing and still be able to do all missions etc and not reset anything. You can always use a portal or keep jumping through black holes until you reach the centre i believe. Do what NADA says.

Found out last night that even if you do the thing with Atlas, then go back to the original galaxy and go through the center like you normally would....it all breaks again. :steamfacepalm: Tried it for "science" and was very glad I had all those repair kits and wiring looms.
I tend to do the Atlas Path during the last phase of the Artemis storyline. They both require you to hyperjump to multiple star systems (11 for Atlas, 16 for Artemis) so they fit well together at that point. This does mean I finish Atlas before Artemis but it just seems natural.

I've been fortunate enough to never get stuck because of bugs at an Atlas station, so I guess that's fairly rare.

As for the galaxy jump. I got caught by the tech destruction the first time, so now I prepare by off-loading all my suit tech to inventory and switching to a disposable wrecked ship and multi-tool before entering the portal. It's a bit of a pain but better than having to repair everything.

If memory serves, you always start in a yellow star system in the new galaxy, so summoning your freighter into the sky above you should not be an issue (just look up and use the quick menu). Quickly switching back to your main ship and multi-tool also makes surviving the environment easy.
Always equip a cheap multi-tool and cheap replaceable StarShip before switching Galaxies...
Hard to say what happened to you based on the description. I don't remember any circumstance where you could become trapped. Plus you can also use your last manual save which would have been when you got out of your ship and that would have set you right.

It may be possible that if you go forward to where you have to pick the galaxy and crash, that somehow it resets as though you did not interact with the Atlas. Still, that would imply that you just needed to reload the prior save.

I have done those both ways, waiting to do the Atlas Path until after I was in the new galaxy. Not sure how you got that far without obtaining a freighter or an extra ship/tool, but those are extremely helpful. I can only guess you were doing some kind of speed run without understanding the consequences of changing galaxies.

Once you get the way it is going to work, you come prepared with a crap tool and ship you install before making the jump. Once on the other side you call in your good ship and switch to your good tool. Having the freighter with the matter beam installed making repairing your suit about a 10 minute task at most.
I'm stuck on presenting miracles and can't count how many times I've been told to go to the next atlas and show miracles.

I believe that one is never ending and you can stop when you get bored with it.

There were once players who wrote that it had come to an end when they already wanted to give up. :steamhappy:

Hexoplex, thank you, forgot to mention the repair kits.

Aelfhe1m, yeah, if you are a more strict, more efficient player, you will probably get into less trouble than I do.

Mr. Bufferlow, not sure about those manual saves I was supposed to load. I only had two options, autosave and restoration save. Both put me back in the Atlas interface and with the Atlas interface blocking the way out.
And I do have a freighter with frigates and lots of storage rooms, multiple ships.
And yes, at the end I was sort of speed running the Atlas quest and some other quests. I was aiming though for the Atlantid drive, which required me to finish the Atlas quest first. I was NOT aiming at that point to changing galaxy… I was took a bit by surprise, but I managed thanks to filled storage rooms in my freighter.
