Ocean creatures dying and landing on top of me
Is this happening to anyone else? Is it supposed to happen?

I'm underwater, hand-mining (so using the terrain manipulator). Or I'm just swimming. eg, not shooting/using mining beam. I hear funny noises, a shadow, and something whacks my chr. around. I panic, look around, see a corpse of those manta ray looking things near/on top of me, often belly up. It will slowly sink to dirt and just stay there.

Hasn't happened a lot but it startles me every time. If it's intentional, good job at making me jump. :steammocking:

Do you get mordite from it? Water creatures like their personal space. I find if you get too close to them or they bump into you, they die.

I haven't noticed/checked any of the new aquatic species but the jellyfish type (not the translucent horrors) always used to suicide against the player when swimming near them. You'll get the Mordite and meat in your inventory when they do it though.

No mordite or meat. And they weren't visible anywhere close in the area at first.

I have a wild theory the game is randomly spawning a new group, at my location - and one is spawned in already occupied space (me), and for some reason that kills it/spawns dead vs. just not spawning.
It happens when shark-like fish hunt others sea fauna, you hear some roar when they are around.

Hm. I've seen land ones hunting in the past. Hadn't noticed it with the ocean creatures yet. But it would make sense! :)

It is exactly as Scaramouche indicated. I have seen it not in a deep ocean but in a normal ocean. The fish killed by a predator falls and that is what must have happened with the rays.
Could be Worse, Could be A Bowl of Petunias, but whales DO fall from the Sky Sometimes.

Otherwise it's sounding like an impact, when the Nautilon hits creatures underwater, they die instantly, so maybe the game is registering your char as IN A vehicle or something, Ran into this A few times.

Just another case of NMS Strange Physics, like Water Splashing inside Water Bases & why YOUR starship proximity when base building matters up to 5 miles, where anyone else can be parked in your living room doing A Planetary survey while your stringing Power Cords.
I had a land animal do it to me too. I just assumed it had walked into an aggressive plant.
