cooking is so tedious and overly complicated. I'd rather not have to look up every recipe in the game. Even the ingredients can be a pain to farm, and the storage is so tiny.

I usually use a spare ship for my food storage, holds far more stuff than the nutrient processor...
I had stopped bothering with anything but bread (8 sec jetpack boost when eaten normally) after realising how poor the bonuses were for more complex foods, but I might have to do some experimenting in the kitchen again now that new bonuses have been added for the Nutrient Ingester
