ship interiors
press e button and you can walk around inside big ships

not viable for small ships. mostly for cargo ships where theres space would be awesome to customise too:GDNormal::steamthumbsup:

If by "cargo ship" you mean haulers, they are still too small to have an interior your character can move around in.

This would require a ship at least 2x the width of a hauler's main hull and 1.5x the height, and a body as long as the longest hauler. Even that wouldn't leave much room for customization.

I agree with @Lindy Bomber that there's not really a single ship in NMS that is large enough to "walk around in". Even the Boundary Herald, which is quite big, doesn't have the height profile for it to have an interior that made any sense.

Basically, all ships are Cockpit ships, they do not have cabins and interiors. That's just obvious from the outside and it would be quite immersion breaking for them to shoehorn in walkable interiors without first redoing all of the ship models to be much larger. Which would require redoing all landing pads and space stations to fit them...

Of course, I would absolutely love if they did do all that. But it's definitely not going to happen. That would be a massive undertaking, especially for a game that is getting close to pushing a decade since release.

Can you imagine trying to find a suitably flat/clear place to land a ship that big? You'd pretty much be restricted to landing pads... that or regularly have the ship clipping through terrain...

Personally, I'd be willing to pay that price if I had interiors I could walk around in and decorate and customize. Especially if such an update included keeping some ship types as smaller sized. Would give you a good reason to keep a shuttle around for example.

It's all moot anyway, other than as wishful thinking, but I do think it would be a cool addition to the game. I was surprised just how much I enjoyed that feature in Starfield but now that I've experienced it in a game that did it (relatively) well, I wish more games had it.

Yeah, being restricted to landing pads might be an acceptable sacrifice, but I'm not sure how much fun it would be to have the ground block off half the interior of the cabin...

I want my ship to have a booster seat so when flying over a planet I can actually see the ground in front of me instead of peering over the nose to only see what is way ahead. I have a friend who solved the issue by flying upside down but that's too much for me, get the disorienting whirlys. Would be fun to have some decorating options though all I really want are fuzzy dice. Please.

I fly upside down all the time for that very purpose, that's unfortunate that you find it discomforting.
I like to think of it as the planet being above me rather than below

LOL I had a thing where my freighter, no matter how I aligned it, was facing planets, upside down. Was very strange and gave me that same sensation. Would require brain reset.

Yep, flying upside down is my goto strategy as well. I fly upside down more often than rightside up when I'm in atmosphere.

Switching to 3rd person view also is an option if you want to be able to see the ground right below your ship.

ship interiors again... why?

for the 30secs or less to fly from one planet to the next?
or
for the duration of a warp jump?
or
for the some would say 'painfully' simple space combat duration?

there will always be mechanics from some other game that someone wants in another... doesn't mean it would make sense or would be worth putting in

Most people asking for ship interiors seem to be primarily interested in role play and immersion. Multi player ships seem to be the second most common motivation.

Role play and immersion in subjective and can be solved by adjusting your role play mode. Multi player ships would require a major multi player overhaul and something to actually do I your multi player ships.

A mid sized ship could be useful as a mobile base, but finding a place to land it would be a problem.

@Lindy Bomber:
yeah i get the roleplay aspect...
but we already have the freighter (ship with interior minus movement Lol)
and surprisingly (wink) not too many players are grouping up to roleplay life in that vessel

Last time I did multiplayer on someone else's freighter I got stranded, floating in space, after the freighter made a hyperjump. I have not been brave enough to ever do it again since.

@JE: haha... i remembered... that's why i mentioned it:steammocking:

The only way, given the current constraints, to make ship interiors happen would be something similar to the derelict freighters. Where you can experience a loading screen and be "inside" your ship. They could even go Tardis and let you have a huge freighter sized area to do your interior decorating.

Downside, unless they make up a space fight game to play while you are inside, it would just be kind of goofy...knowing previous HG takes on user requestgs, it would be kind of "why did you even bother?"
