So you're saying finding basalt doesn't work if it just finds a volcanic planet. I'm not buying that. And none of the screenshots posted by either of you prove nor disprove anything.
That old thread is the reason I knew you could pin basalt without having found it. I'm a forward thinker, if I had ever found a planet with Basalt before needing it I would mine some, knowing that I would need it once I unlocked the Voltaic Amplifier blueprint.
That's the reason I was quite happy to have learned that they added those refining recipes to make basalt in that other thread I commented on earlier today.
But this is indeed curious. I have a Dead world, two Exotics (Fractured and Petrified) a Barren world (with diplos!), a Scorched biome and a Marsh biome with Vile Brood. Clearly nothing that's Volcanic. I'm not even going to speculate at this point, other things to do.
No, because most volcanic biomes don't have basalt. If it was just directing me to the nearest volcanic planet, the odds are it wouldn't have basalt on it. Even moreso, all of mine scanned from space showing it as a resource.
The likelihood of trying that 6 separate times, in 6 very different areas finding basalt every single time is very small if it's only directing to volcanic planets & hoping for the best.
Edit:
My process: (I've been on my freighter all day updating & moving ♥♥♥♥ around, so I started from there)
Open teleport. Scroll back a few pages. Choose random space station. Check my spreadsheet to see where it is & anything about the system. Warp. Get in boat. Select basalt. Launch & open galaxy map. Follow mission to a system I've never visited. L3 every planet until I find basalt. Fly to space station. Dismiss basalt quest. Repeat.
There's a difference between meaningful & a sample size that you could start to draw conclusions from.
That's why I tried 6. It doesn't rule anything out, it absolutely could be luck, but those are pretty steep odds, a result I'd call meaningful.
Flip a coin 6 times. If it's heads every single time, the loser of the toss is almost guaranteed to call foul. And that's WAY higher odds than this.
Regardless, I checked back through patch notes and according to Hello Games they did fix the issue related to pinning basalt, in the same Echoes update where they added the refining recipes for it. So your conclusion was correct. :)
I disagree. Noting patterns and statistics is not drawing conclusions. I know there are at least 2 prominent users here that do it all the time & I'm having a harder & harder time biting my tongue when one of them says 'Well it's a 5 percent chance so you just have to do it 20 times" (read that in the Adam Savage mocking Jamie voice please).
6 doesn't tell me anything about the answer. 6 tells me that it might be worthwhile to start digging for that answer. The first stage in forming a hypothesis isn't concluding.
Given that I missed the refining recipe addition in the Echoes patch notes, that's where I started, because I already knew I clearly didn't read them very well back when that patch landed....
Nerd. LOL
