While you're waiting to see if anyone has a fast solution, what I usually do is start looking through past systems that I've been through. Sometimes you get lucky & can warp back to a previous space station.

Yeah well I have been doing that since 4 days actually. No luck yet. Dizzy from jumping from system to system,😊
Also normally when I enter a system I check every corner. Never met a Lava planet yet.

I didn't mean physically jump to each one, I just meant going through the systems on the Discoveries tab on the pause screen. If you landed on a planet, you can just mouse over it to see what was on it.

I just had some basalt the other day, but I'm not in Euclid, so portal codes won't help. If my connection was faster, I'd meet you in the Anomaly & just give you some, but I don't have the bandwidth for that.

Good luck.

open Catalogue & Guide
go to Materials & Items
Select Raw Materials
click on Basalt and "locate substance"

it will set a waypoint in the galaxy map to get to the closest system with basalt

I believe you need to have found Basalt at least once previously before you can use the catalog feature. May or may not be a problem for OP?

That's correct. I assumed they hadn't, since Basalt only has 1 use at this point.

Edit: I stand corrected, Basalt is unlocked by default

Ah, that could be, I'm currently running through the expo, and it appears in my catalogue even though I've not come across any yet... I guess that's just for expedience in expos

Another option is to just make the Basalt instead of hunting down a planet that has it, you can use a refiner to make it (which I just learned today). There are two different recipes, and they use much more commonly found material:
  • 1 phosphorus + 1 Magnetised Ferrite = Basalt x 2
  • 1 Pyrite + 1 Magnetised Ferrite = Basalt x 1

The only caveat is that it does require a refiner with at least 2 input slots.

Nope, you can use the pin method to hunt for it without having ever found it before. Like all common resources, it is in your guide and available to pin to "locate substance" from the moment you start a playthrough.

I stand corrected. I didn't think the exotics were included in that.

To confirm, in Euclid?

In a new save, I used the Catalog to pin a search for Basalt. This image is what I see:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3386898365 There are six planets in this system, none of them are Volcanic biomes and none of them have Basalt. You don't really get pointed to Basalt until you've actually found some once.

By contrast, this is what I see in my Main Save when I use the Calatolg search:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3386905379 And, indeed, there's a Marker and a Current Mission path in the Galaxy Map.

@AmberAnvil, you might want to check those 6 planets again. Not all volcanic planets have Basalt, and when you pin Basalt all it cares about is whether the planet is volcanic or not...it does not actually verify that the planet has basalt as a resource. The message you are seeing in that first screenshot is the exact message that you get if you are in a system that has a volcanic planet.

Brand new save, I haven't even left the starter planet yet, and this is what I get when Basalt is pinned:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3386924179
And once I do get into space, this is what I get on the galaxy map:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3386924289

In other words, it works just fine without having found Basalt previously. As I said previously in the thread. Either you do in fact have a volcanic planet in that system in your first screenshot and you just missed it, or your game is broken.
