Playing NMS without any missions
I've looked around a bit - but haven't had any success with searching properly I reckon.

What I want is to play a regular game of NMS without any quests, nothing. No Artemis.... no Big Red or Big Blue...

Just me, my ship, the worlds, the aliens, without anything showing up on a "to-do" list. And I want that from the very moment I awaken with a broken ship.

I realize a regular game in such a mode probably isn't likely, as it seems a lot of things are indeed tied to these quests. Ignoring them is one thing but I know they are still there and see them from time to time bouncing through menus.

I played the abandoned mode but I sort of missed the NPCs. Something about the absence of any quests tho seems quite appealing to me for this game.

Any way it can be done? tia

In a normal game you can just ignore all the missions, they are 100% optional, although they will keep nagging you.

The new Abandoned mode doesn't have any of the Artemis story missions but does still trigger some of the side quests.
Try Creative mode, this way you get the tools and items you need without having to do the 'quests' to get them normally. Even in creative you still need to do a little questing to get access to the Anomaly, which I assume that you will want to have.
I've played saves where I've ignored the main quest entirely. These days that does mean (in non-Abandoned modes, without modding) that you'll miss out on purple systems etc.

Like smurfy said, the log may still nag at you re: any missions currently in your list, but you're free to ignore/not do any of it. I almost never do the side/guild/pirate/nexus missions (and thus still don't fully know how it all "works"). Just not interested.

Do what you want. :)

Edit: oh, yeah, the Anomaly isn't available until you've warped to a 2nd system at least once, I think. Something like that. After that you an ignore the MQ if you wish.

If the fact they show up on screen in the lower right is what causes your issue, you can use this mod to hide those and just do you

If you want full access, you will need to start the Artemis mission and interact with the crashed ship. Then, you are free to do as you wish. You can't stop missions from appearing on your list. Certain events (like warping multiple times) automatically trigger missions (like the Settlers). The new update added a mission when you dig in a fossil bed that seems more persistent in reminders than other missions. You can stop the rotation of missions by selecting the exploration mission. Then, planets in system and things scanned are the only guidance you are given (until you trigger a mission).
Thanks folks. Food for thought to be sure. It probably would not have made sense for them to create a regular but unquested means of playing the game. I actually may take a look at a creative play through... I've umpteen thousands of hours in the game but never once did a creative game.
I've started a creative session, changed a lot of the default settings, so yup, it's almost what I had hoped would be available to me.

I didn't see a means of turning off all items available. I did change the setting so I have to pay for them but they are all available for installation and/or use.

Still, it's much closer to what I was hoping for, so thanks much for the feedback!

It's the one thing from keeping this game from being an actual sandbox game. Sandboxes don't nag you do to do ♥♥♥♥. Not in the first hour, definitely not in the 100th.

NMS is the only faux-sandbox game that will still nag you about basic controls or force you into storylines you don't want, even 2000 hours into the game.
Most welcome Mate, enjoy!

what i do is...
start a new game select custom then scroll down to ease of use
turn off tutorial
inventory transfer range=unlimited
hyper drive system= unrestricted
starting slots=max
follow the primary mission till you unlock the anomaly, then keep you're log on the secondary mission--->the universe awaits...
Put a sticky note over the bottom right of your screen to hide the quests scrolling by. As noted above, just don't do them. It would be nice if we could put ones we just have no interest in in some kind of folder for later but a sticky note would work, albeit a bit silly.

Not sure I would do anything more than turn off tutorial. If you make everything maxed out I personally don't see much interest in playing, or that there would be much to do, for me. If I only wanted to build bases then creative would work. No quests at all are pretty limiting but there are those that have come before you so it's been done before, by someone somewhere.
This is exactly what I came on here to find out today. Glad others feel the same way. I started to play NMS last year but got bogged down in the missions and bailed. So based on comments, it sounds like creative mode might be the way to go. What are some down-sides of creative mode?
No achievements is about the only down-side I can think of. Also it may prevent some content, like the atlantid story line that can only be unlocked by completing certain quest arcs.
