what does this update do to planets outside of purple star systems
I'm confused. i mean probably other than graphical updates does it change plantlife to be more diverse or is that saved for the purple systems. and does leave the terrain alone in the older systems even though the terrain generation is far Superior in the purple systems. Honestly if it makes the game better why not add it to all systems just because people have bases there. i mean I can understand if they want some special surprises in the purple systems but they could find a way to improve terrain generation in older systems with peoples bases on them. what exactly does this do to the older non purple star systems?

As far as I know the only major environmental change for non-purple systems were a few new biome variations.

For the main biomes (lush, barren, scorched, frozen, toxic, radioactive) there are now ruin worlds and also new themed variation for each.

These are the names of themed variations for each:
Lush -> Jungle
Barren -> Desolate
Scorched -> Burnt
Frozen -> Sub-zero
Toxic -> Noxious
Radioactive -> Irradiated

Edit: Also there are the localized storms like gravity inversions.

the game looks much better than launch from what I saw from the trailer. looking at how much better AI is at image and video generation this decade a game like this 10-20 years in the future with every planet and its animal and plant species completely unique would be epic

Many lush worlds are no longer lush. Kinda rocky and barren looking. Don't like the change much.
New technology's and upgrades, new lighting and water, new biomes, new quests, better underwater generation, abandoned mode, new storage for fish, ships and multi-tools... there's a lot of new stuff in this update that isn't related to the new systems.

the seas of velvety grass seem to be mostly missing now... This is what many lush worlds have turned into:

honestly with the lack of animal variety i might prefer abandoned mode. The terrain was always its strong suit. Also at least every seafloor doesn't look the same now. excited to see how deep they are. probably 50 years Until AI gets on par with human creators and can make something like subnautica. Subnautica 2 is definitely on my wishlist
Worlds are all or at least most I have dropped on to, much more interesting. Yes whole worlds don't look like a golf courses any more. That's a good thing. Those bare spots help the game catch up. Generating all that velvety and boring grass was hard on old potatoes that folks play on. There's a lot of different terrain on normal planets now, not just the purple ones. There may not be really deep seas on older planets but they are better, have different critters and fish, cool water textures. Some planets, actually a lot of planets I particularly liked have changed. My anomalous paradise planets and chameleon planets which took forever to find are all pretty much gone. Oh well. I also have bases on 154 galaxies and the photos I took of many/almost all of them are unviewable now. Just horizontal color bars. Sad times.

Just hop on and find out what's there. It would actually be a good test to see what's new before you go through the questlines for the purple systems. These changes almost make it NMS2. Pretty impressive for a 9 yr old game. I've just booted up my original save and realized I have to do allll of the autophage quests on it but since I have all language learned for the other factions I might as well go for it. So many thousands of words. LOL

Try to look at all the changes with an open mind. You'll have more fun and the game isn't going to go back to 2020 anyway so might as well go with the flow.

Well, it's not perfect, but pretty nice. Never been a huge fan of the curled over grass, but it's better than spoongrass!
I would like to see the giant portals in the game activate
