You should have a log that tells you fly around in impulse drive for an encounter.

all the other logs are just randomly generated from vendors

If you haven't gotten it yet, try using an anomaly detector and search for a signal involving harmonic frequencies or whatever. The signal should have the autophage symbol, and that's how I started the quest

OP, finish the dang questline, then go to a Dissonant system and pulse around till it pops. That's all you have to do.
