Easy ways to get frigate upgrade modules?
It's bothering me how irregularly they appear. Some days I get a few of them. In an abandoned freighter in space I got two at the same time, that was amazing. Then nothing for 5 more incursions.

Sometimes I find one in a space stations... and no more for 20 more stations.

What's the secret? How do you grind them? I really want to improve my freighter and I am being extremely unlucky, I am around 100 hours into the game and I have barely improved a little bit. I can't travel to most systems because of the specific engine upgrades I lack.

Frigate upgrade modules are most commonly found in Crashed Freighters. They do not spawn in space stations.

They are found in space stations from time to time, you get them from the guilds, as rewards. I got a few of them that way.

Is there some way to increase the chances of obtaining the upgrade from crashed freightes? I am looking for them using the nautilus sonar system. Can I find them more easily?

Grind reputation with the various guilds by doing missions for them, once you reach 100 reputation, you can get them as the rewards for being higher rep. Then you just move between a couple of space station to claim them, the rewards list refreshes every time to use a portal to switch between space stations.

And you can get pretty much every upgrade thing by doing that, just got to find the right space stations to cycle through.
The most reliable, but expensive way to find them is on Derelict Freighters, the kind you need an ESS for. I've done hundreds and averaged about one Salvaged Frigate Module per.

https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2144 This mod which supports version 5.5 will allow you to find every crashed freighter on a planet's surface all at once. As far as vanilla solutions, I think that the nautilus sonar system is the best possible.

This nolonger works as of the Worlds 2 update. Now you can only claim the guild reward once per station. It isn't reset by teleport or reload.
there are a few options for Salvaged Fleet Modules:

1. Possible envoy reward from explorer and merchant guilds (these no longer restock with a warp/reload)

2. Search crashed/submerged freighters. Nautilon can locate submerged freighters with it's radar, then fly to the location with your ship.

3. Search freighters and accompanying cargo pods... they have a small chance to have them. This method requires pirating.

Bulkheads can be found with all the above methods (only one of the guilds offer them though), but can also be obtained by clearing derelict freighters
I think SFMs can also be found as random loot on derelicts...

Oh, also the random missions from space stations can sometimes have them as rewards.

Either use a maxed out ground exocraft scanner (any exocraft will do) and scan for a crashed freighter, or use the nautilon.

It will be very hit-and-miss. While you're doing that, get some frigate missions going because sometimes you can find them from those, too. And also regularly check missions on space stations and nexus missions, they used to (I dunno if they still do) give SFMs there too on rare occasion.

It's going to take awhile. There's no quick and easy way to get these. It's going to be purely RNG. I've gone through 5 crashed freighters with none, and I've also gotten 2 out of the same.

Once you find a space station where the guild rep offers the item you want, EVERY guild rep at Colossal Archives in the same system will offer the same item. The Commercial Cartographic map from the station map guy will let you find colossal archives, and you might also be able to find them with one of the exocraft scanners (I haven't checked, because I usually have more nav data for the maps than I know what to do with). With the change to how guild reps respawn their stock, it is no longer worth putting bases at the colossal archives to go back to them, but like any other POI, there are many, many archives in any single system.

That's way more than my average.

Seriously? I have been travelling a lot and sometimes the stuff doesn't reset in a long time, others, it seems to be random? I may be wrong, I move a lot recently. But I do remember finding the same stuff already "sold" after coming back a few times.

I don't want to resort to mods unless things get extremely tiresome. But it's an option. Thanks for bringing it.

That's actually brilliant, I never cared too much for those places. Interesting.

try finding a pirate controlled black market system, you can shoot at any freighters that spawn there while you fly around to any of the planets stop shoirt of entering the atmo and they will spawn and you can inspect them to see if they carry the salvage and when you shoot at them no sentinels will show up and the only thing you have to do is shoot the friehgters cannons and proceed. rinse and repeat thats how i got all mine sometimes nothing but most times quite a few in one system...the pods too.

this doesn't work now. The station and the archives share the same inventory now.
So if you've collected the reward from the station the archives will have nothing to offer you
