Universe Population Standard/Abandoned

After playing for a number of years, I noticed yesterday in my game settings that the game settings that the "Universe Population" is set to "Abandoned". The "Standard" option is disabled and can't be changed after the game is started.

The docs say
"New custom-mode games can set the universe's population to abandoned. Abandoned mode removes all alien lifeforms from the game, creating a lonelier and more challenging survival experience."

I'm pretty sure that's not how the game has been playing for me for the past few years. Is this a new thing?

I then created a new "Normal" mode game. Universe population is still set to Abadoned. Same for "Survival" mode. I then tried custom and specifically set the Universe Population to Standard. Once in the game, it had been changed backed to "Abandoned" again.

What is up with this?

Are you using any mods? maybe they corrupt that setting? This is the only reason, I can think of...

I have not played the Utopia Expedition, and therefore I don't have the answer.

This was a fresh install of the game, a few days before the Worlds Pt 2 update.

There is a new game mode for Abandoned Systems only. Not sure how you opted in, but apparently you opted in to that mode on the save you are using.

If this was a save before the World P2 update, you could put in a bug report if it somehow decided your save was Abandoned Systems only and that was not your choice. There is one other possibility that your save was from the specific Expedition that was Abandoned Systems only. If you did not close it out at the Anomaly, it would still be set for the Expedition parameters.

I would go check at the Expedition console behind the Nexus ball thing .

Why is it when I select standard for a new custom game, that it gets reverted to Abandoned?

I have the same issue, installed the game fresh a few days ago but am a 1st time player s don't even know what playing ( stranded) populated is like, just see that playing abandoned in not rerecorded. Let me know if you find a fix.
