World Part 2 Update - End Game Content
No mans sky was all about exploration so why prevent players from experiencing purple systems making it end game only. it feels like something world of warcraft would do.. not NMS. So why choose to change direction now? I would love to see the devs meet the players that don't feel like grinding all day.
Would love to experience the core update but have been spending over 20 hours trying to get the atlantid drive and I am failing to make it work.

Many players have been asking for more story and more depth, this is HGs attempt to address that.

The new mission should only take an hour or two if you have all the requirements. What exactly are you stuck on?

He's probably talking about players who make a new save who wanna do the new content, which will require doing the entirety of Atlas Path, Artemis Path, and the Autophage quests.

I can see why HG put this quest in after all of that because, well, of the quest's story but what they really need to do is give veterans a way to skip Artemis Path.

As it stands, it takes a good 20-30 hours unless you speedrun it to get from fresh file to being able to do the latest quest and that's quite the chore and not everybody is interested in doing Artemis Path for the umpteenth time.
End Game in this case means you have to play through some of the other quests before getting to the new content. It doesn't mean there isn't anything more to do.
the new mission line doesnt even take 15 mins if you already have a stockpile of materials which most long time players probably will have. a 15mins "lockout" doesnt seem that big of a deal really.

Personally, I am delighted that HG has offered us a new quest and new systems/planets to explore.
For those who have not done the missions necessary to access this new quest, expedition 17 will start soon and will allow all players to access the gas giants, the new systems...

Why have any progression at all then? Not everything needs to be available to a new save. Progression is fun
I agree with OP. The quests in this game suck, and locking most of an update behind what is effectively a grindwall just harms the exploration experience. Love HG and NMS but their design choices baffle me sometimes.

You're forgetting the part where the new mission requires every other mission in the game (or at least the big main questlines) which can take 20+ hours of "normal" (not speedrun) play if you don't beeline it as fast as possible, taking time to do stuff like upgrade your equipment, etc.

Yes I understand the direction they went with fleshing out the missions and directive gameplay which is totally cool as it really is coming together especially now with these purple systems, I love it all, I just don't understand the choice of making it hard to get to for 90% of their player base so excuse my slight bitterness on the matter ;-)

I have my main save so not a new one, I did the atlas missions I have the starseed equipped, I did the artemis missions and i am now taking on a minotaur to finish the trace of metal quest which i rather not talk about how that went... so yea going back in but this feels like a grind that just doesn't end, and I put everything on creative otherwise it would take me days if not weeks just to get a drive.

IMO no mans sky always has been a grind, a grind that leads you away from whatever it is that you "wanted" to do so I appreciate creative mode which I hardly use because I like to do things the hard way.
But still having the option is there since this game started almost as a exploration tech demo.. it was all about exploration, now it kind of feels it is more about progression, end game stuff, which surprised me.
its a goal.. yes, but a bit of stretch if you ask me, this could use some tweaking to find that sweet spot between drive for exploration and reward

True, I think it is delayed however?

Yeah, the expedition isn't out yet. They need to finish Cursed Redux (which they extended one week because of the buggy update causing big problems in it) first.

But there's a chance that the expedition is not going to let you see purple stars in your main save. You could start the expedition, see the purple stars, and then go back to your main save and be unable to go there, even if you export the expedition ship.

Either the Atlantid Drive will be removed, or the Expedition will have you using portals to get to purple stars, is my prediction.

And of course we already know that you will START on a Gas Giant (wonder how that's gonna work out as they have extreme weather) because they told us as much in the patch notes.

Don't grind, beat the game. You've had almost a decade to do it. It's not hard to beat a game with god mode and insta craft built into creative mode. Lmao.

200+ hours m8 ;-)
Now I am not the type of dude to do all the quests but I had to speedrun the last few quests of both artemis and atlas, working on trace of metal quest and i have been pulsing around in another dissonant system with my sentinel ship that i got after finishing the harmony camp quests... do I really need to finish trace of metal?
Like when do i get the quest to get the drive.

like i can't imagine how this would feel for fresh players that have like maybe 20 hours to spend a week to play like could they even speedrun this or would they have to work at it for a few weeks if not months to do all the atlas/artemis missions, i mean if you have to find, mine, craft, hyper jump, solve puzzles, I think i build a AI minotaur with a brain and now I am fighting it.. its just so much

Haha yes it is, I am struggling :p

In fact gating stuff behind quests like this is poor game design. Ideally you make new content that new players simply can not do cuz it is too hard as they don't have the technology and ressources to deal with it.

Unfortunately this is an indie game made by people who dont really know how to make anything with depth or similar so here we are with a bad bandaid solution.

I just wish stuff would require you to do the quests once per account, not per character. That would be a much much better bandaid fix than what they did. Unfortunately smart decisions are not the devs best skill, otherwise stuff like settlements wouldnt be so depressing.
