there is some slight changes to older worlds, but the bulk of the difference is seen in the new worlds in purple star systems.

from what i've seen the changes to older worlds is primarily the way water looks and some color palette changes. probably some changes to animals as well, but i haven't really checked that.

The new terrain algorithm is only in purple systems. Old worlds in old systems might have their biome variation swapped with another which can include minor terrain differences, but that's it.

Also worth pointing out that gas giants, deep sea worlds and titan planets are also only in purple systems.

worlds you have already discovered will prioritise the land topography to be as close to identical to when you first discovered them (not including terrain edits made with the multi-tool) ...However, the makeup of a planet can change drastically between updates. one of my core bases is on a Hellworld which used to be "Eminently Exploding" as a descriptor... after the update, it is still a Hellworld but a different type and the world now has synthetic life instead of volcanic based life...

when they make changes to the generation mechanics great effort is made to insure at least the terrain structure of a world remains the same but as almost everything in the game is procedural this means some aspects will change.

my main home has gone from being a rainbow world, to a rainworld, to a bog, to a worm infested bog, now to just a rainworld bog. (in worlds part 1 my world went from a beautiful violet color to a piss yellow sky but in worlds part two the yellow is less garrish and there are ntoicable contrast layers of violet sky with yellow highlights which actually looks nice)

every major engine build changes things... sometimes you hate it... some times you love it. it is just how our universe works here in NMS.

oh! this is extra but aprrently the new Purple Stars cant be visited until you clear particular story events... the ones named are completion of "The Atlas Path" & the new Atalantid Story (whatever it is named as im still trying to unlock it) ... i have an atlandtid character because my save is from back when they were introduced but new players need to unlock and complete the story in game to gain access to them which means i have to basically do the story twice now but i am unsure how to trigger it... all i know is it starts some time while working through the "Settlement" storyline.

Discovery has no effect on generation, the universe uses the same pre-determined seed for everyone.

The general consensus is that outside the water graphics, planetary 'changes' are for purple stars.

The new biome variations like jungle can replace existing biomes in old systems. But besides that yeah, most of the new stuff is in purple systems.

Just the new ones they added, in the purple systems.
Amazing new planet generation, gated behind quests, and relegated to a small portion of the game. :bummer:

it will likely be expanded on later, with purple systems becoming a new launch point for further quests and game content.

it is frustrating that the only way to get to it is gating it behind a couple quest chains...some of which aren't immediately obvious and exploration wasn't actually gated before beyond the need to do the tutorial

but the system will likely be expanded greatly done the road, and ideally due to the requirements being much higher it'll cause them to start implementing more difficult content to the game gated behind quests and actual prep work since it doesn't HAVE to be particularly friendly for early game
