I wonder if you start a save with this expedition will you have access to purple systems afterwards?

What about expectations started from the space anomaly?

Will you just lose access to those systems and your bases?

Good questions.

Speculating that they will allow start and finish like the others. Bases built will inherently follow. Access will forego the current restriction of being an END GAME completionist.

I can not recall the last time a Redux was running concurrently with new content. The scope of this Major update with the new mod format and merging Public to Experimental today.. lots of balls being juggled.

They have (as near as I recall) never dropped a content update in the middle of an expedition. I'm ready surprise they did that.

Yeah, they are pushing it a bit even for them. I guess they want to remember the bad old days again and how crazy people got. there's not a lot of tolerance in the world right this minute.

Most likely not.

I would predict that you're given the ability to (temporarily) create the Atlantideum Drive, or, during the expedition one isn't required to get to Purple Stars.

If they let you create the Drive, then most likely if you import a ship with one installed to your main save, it will probably be removed.

EDIT: They could also have you travelling to Purple Stars via Portals, which kinda makes me wonder if that is possible in the base game. Has anybody tried doing this?

Purple systems do have portals. I was able to portal to it with my main, but when I tried with my alt the portal gave a invalid coordinates error and sent me to a different system.

The system index for my first purple system was 5,15,2 which converts to 1,536. The game system allows for 16^3 (4096). Regions typical have 400 to 600 systems. I wonder how the game choose which phantom systems to use.

Regardless you are probably right about only temporary access to purple systems. However HGs does like to give players different ways of doing things so there is a non-zero chance they will allow it to be permanent.
