Black background on building menu and talking with NPC
!-Attention-!
Edit: I have found a workaround. It looks like the problems affecting all AMD systems is from the Anti Aliasing. Changing the TAA settings will TEMPORARILY fix the problem for a short time. This is a problem that Hello Games needs to fix so the best we can do is put up with it and report the problem to Hello Games in hopes they can figure out what is causing it in their code and get it fixed.
!-Attention-!

I have been seeing quite a few people talk about it and thinking it's their GPU dying but that doesn't seem to be the case as my GPU is only a couple months old even though its an older model and this is the ONLY game I am having obvious graphical issues so I am thinking it's an issue on the games part and am only looking to find a solution to both help my issue and others who are getting the same issue.

So to start the black background starts in gameplay when opening the inventory. It starts as a black blotch when you open the building menu that starts about where your character is standing and will slowly spread outwards, eventually taking up the entire screen. Now the black void doesn't obscure the menu itself, only the background so the menu can still be seen and navigated. Other than the build menu I have found that the black void to manifest itself but in a different fashion when talking with NPCs. when you start a dialogue with a NPC the far background quickly becomes black and "eats" itself up to the NPC, leaving you with only the dialogue box and the NPC visible infront of a black screen.

This REALLY doesn't appear like a intended design and finding a solution if available would be a great help at least to me.

I am having the same issue with this update. Also when your doing them puzzle numbers in one of them buildings it also dose not show the puzzle only the answers. All conversations and when looting containers the background sky turns black.

Black Background : Seems to be only happen for players who have an AMD GPU
Puzzle : its fixed in experimental version
I have found a temporary fix
It seems going into the settings and changing the settings, like the Anti Aliasing and confirming the change will fix the black pixels for about a hour in my case.

What fixes this for me is just changing any graphics settings, as you said this only works for about an hour.... I think it does have to do with AMD GPUs.

The Anti Aliasing is an example, not the only fix I found. Yes, just changing about any setting will fix it temporarily.
Yes, the issue is a AMD only issue and updating graphics drivers do not fix the issue either so before someone suggests it, no that wont work to fix the problem.

Same here unfortunately, yes AMD GPU as well (7800XT) fairly newish GPU, no issues with other games :(
Same issue here on AMD 7900XT, newest update 5.54 has not fixed the issue, hope it gets resolved soon this sucks!
same issue here... cant believe 1st time getting an AMD GPU and getting stupid issues like these...
have a 7900 xtx
This is a problem on nearly all AMD graphics cards. I feel the issue is Anti Aliasing and the background blurring. The best we can do is to file bug reports to Hello Games and hope they figure out how to fix it soon.

In the meantime the best workaround I found if it is a problem to play the game is to go into the settings, disable the TAA, and continue playing while enabling and disabling TAA as the problem pops up when unwanted.

I would love to mark this as the topic answer so it is more visible to everyone but Steam does not allow me to mark my own comments.

For those with AMD cards (it seems) and the black background issues, something that might help.
Fix you can try. There's a beta out, so on steam go to the game in library, right click and pick properties, choose BETA, code is '3xperimental' for private beta. The problem of black pixels and fix is listed in this beta version apparently
Seems to have worked for me, but I also have a problem where I have a blacked out planet that's also a quest location. That wasn't fixed, so I'm still stuck. Played around for 10 minutes and the NPC issue stayed ok, but didn't try it out longer as I'm still softlocked on the quest as can't see.

Turning off vignette & scanlines in the camera settings seemed to fix it for me.
Hello. Sorry to hear of these problems, but now I know it's not just me. Misery loves company they say. I just spent a week, trouble shooting my system, thinking my GPU was dying, etc. Was about to submit a Zen desk ticket, but now I'll just wait. The black cancer that devours the screen is going to be fixed. Good luck everyone.
