Will worlds part 2 work on my previous save or do I need to start a new game?
Given it changes how planets are formed, do I have to start a new save to explore the worlds part 2?

In Worlds part 1, I brought in a save file from before Waypoint.. old freighter tech and legacy base and freighter parts.

I spent the time fixing my freighter and visiting old planet base to see what changed.

So decide how you'll spend the allotted time you have. Sidetrack is in no short supply.

Your old save should work.

Older planets may have changed, so some of your bases may be affected.
