Is there an end game?
Thinking about getting this as i love survival and space games. I will play games that have no official end game, but prefer ones that do. Does this game have a point where you have officially beaten the game?

Maybe, but in 2000 hours I haven't found it.

Might be over that next ridge. I'll check & get back to you in a day or 3 when I get back to my ship.
There is no "do this and your done". There is no Ender Dragon.

There is a story to follow which unlocked late game content. The story mainly functions as an extended tutorial leading you to different game mechanics, places, and game lore. The story is mainly about the tragic history of the universe and its impending doom. You are not a hero or a villain, you are an exploring documenting the universe.

Hope that helps.

You can follow the main quest to a finale, but that doesn't end the game. Your character can continue, there are billions of planets yet to explore. Maybe you completed your run as an upright citizen. Turn Pirate for a change. Become the richest trader the universe has ever seen. Become a master biologist, catalog the flora and fauna of a million worlds. It's playground, go have fun.
I mean, technically but no.

If you enjoy the idea of going from planet to planet exploring and building bases, then you'll likely like this game. The combat is the weakest part of the game IMO but serviceable enough.

The "story" has an ending, yes, but not really. It's hard to explain without spoiling it.

You mostly "make your own goals" in the game though. What that means is:

Do you like exploring? Alright, go do more of that.
Do you like finding ships? Alright, go do more of that.
Do you like building bases? Alright, go do more of that.
Do you like the farming stuff? Alright, go do more of that.
Do you like space combat? Alright, go do more of that.

Etc and so forth.

you can't beat the game. You can follow the storylines and complete all the mission and sub-missions, which will take you about 30-50 hours if you do not start exploring and building stuff. Then you can start upgrading everything, build your fleet and explore the universe. I am 2800 hours in using different saves and i haven't done everything i want to do.
Wow, thanks for all the great and quick replies. I think you all convinced me to get it at some point this weekend.

I don't know about your region, but it's showing as 60% off in mine. Can't beat that sale!
No. The latest update just added more story content and as long as people are buying the game, that's likely to continue.
Nope, no end, not done until you're bored.
The entire game is end game :>

It is a sandbox game so no real end. As noted, I guess you could call it an end if you complete the main storyline and get all the Steam achievements...but it is not a roll credits type of end.

I would argue that finishing the atlas questline is the "ender dragon". You don't get a formal credits screen, but after that it just has this permanent mission that can't ever progress.
