A Trace of Metal Atlas bug
Enter Pulse drive to find the Atlas thing, find it, contact it, talk to it, "present the hacked brain" proceeds to halfway freeze.
Sound is still going, Starship controls show movement, but are not responsive.
Cant open either of the TAB or ESC menus.
Only option is to close the game by opening the Windows menu.
HELP!
I would assume its a new bug from Worlds 2 being added. hope this is resolved in an update soon.

Yep, been happening for days and no response. I'd really like to continue my game without modifying the save file.
Just keep mashing the enter button and it should set itself free after a bit. It will happen with several of the interactions in that quest. I moved over to experimental yesterday and finished it today, finally, so it can be done.

Just be aware that if you're trying to do it to access new content, A Trace of Metal isn't required for the Autophage questline to open. None of the settlement quests are.
Same thing happened to me yesterday. I just wanted to get the quest done and get it off my log.
Mine is also bugged.

Yeah I just save edited the mission complete when that happened. There's a guide, it acts like it's spooky but you just dig around, find some parameters, change some numbers, quest done. Sucks but that's what it is for now.

Same and this does not resolve it for me.

Wait, it's not? So what is required?

Then i have a really big problem. I'm stuck at trace of metal with the pulse drive. But i also took on the quest prayers of the machines where you also have to use the pulse drive ... guess what ... the trace of metal quest overrides everything. I literally can't progress right now. :/

These links contain numerous spoilers to the storyline & lore. You can get a basic idea at the top of the page, but scroll down at your own personal prerogative.

https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/They_Who_Returned

In order to start mission, you need to:
  • Complete The Purge storyline mission.
  • Locate and enter a Harmonic Camp.

The Purge is the end of the Artemis path

https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Storyline

And to locate a Harmonic Camp, you need an Echo Locator from the Dissonance Resonators on dissonant planets (20% drop)

https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Harmonic_Camp

So finish the Artemis quest line completely, get yourself at echo locator & They Who Returned is just a few spoilers away.
