It may also depend on the choices you made for what type of system to look for. When I went through the quest, after getting to the restored system, it did have a planet that exactly matched the choices I had just made, so if you made choices that didn't match any planets in a purple system near you, it might send you a long way. In particular, I think there is one set of choices that might be impossible, since I've never seen sentinels underwater (to keep things as vague as possible for spoiler reasons).
You obviously aren't playing the new update right now, so why are you trying to "help"?
Stellar Multitudes is the quest in the new update to open up access to purple stars. One of the quest steps places a single purple system on the map (likely different for everyone, depending on where you are and some other things), and to progress the quest you must warp to it. There are no portal coordinates available before you go there because it is quite likely no one has ever been to the specific system you need to go to. If you are really really good with guessing portal coordinates from the coordinates of nearby systems on the map, you might be able to do it that way, but that would likely break the quest.
Oh sorry I already forgot the name of it.
When it first appears it tells you you can't just fly to it without the proper engine upgrade. And after that, you need to create an anchor before the other systems propagate.
The purple star should have appeared and been marked on your map as the next destination. I remember the game making me open the map before I could progress. If it disappeared when you got out there in your ship again, there must be a bug. It should appear next to the system you are currently in the atlas station of.
