But on a crash I did find myself closer than my very last save before the mission. But yes, mission did not "start". At least I did not loose my weekend event mission that day.
EASY SAVE BACKUP
Create a folder somewhere to backup your saves. In that folder create a text file and rename it "NMSBackup.bat". Open it in Notepad and copy the following text. Replace the part with "yourusernamehere" with whatever your windows username is.
echo off
set folder=%date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%_%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%
set folder=%folder: =0%
mkdir %folder%
echo %folder% created
xcopy "C:\Users\yourusernamehere\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS" %folder% /E
Then create a shortcut to this and place it on your desktop (or wherever you want). Run it whenever you want to backup your save. It will create a folder with the current date and time with your save backed up.
This will not only create a backup, but you'll have time stamped backups you can always revert back if need be.

The line in the galaxy map could be taking you clear across the entire galaxy, (potentially over a million light years away), so it's a waste of time following that path...
Did you go to the space station in the mission system? If not, then you wont be able to teleport there.
However, if you have the planet in your discoveries list, you can set the planet as a wonder, then view it on the wonders page to get the portal address...
If I remember correctly (it been a very long time since I've died in NMS), your grave is marked by a similar icon as an anomaly grave, but in a different colour, so it should be easy enough to find once you reach the right system.
When you are playing ANY mission from the Anomaly; YOUR POSITION/LOCATION is not saved. Everything else IS saved. If you exit the game while on one of these missions, you will load into the Anomaly and that's where the notification will tell you that you must complete Anomaly missions in "one go".
Normal Anomaly missions, if aborted, will fail and NOT be available to retry (unless a duplicate mission is cycled thru). If the mission reward was 400 QS, that mission is removed from your mission pool and the 400 QS is forfeited.
EXCEPT - The Weekend event, 1800 QS mission. If you fail/exit/die, you CAN replay that mission (within the time frame) so you do not lose access to your 1800 QS
However, that doesn't dismiss that adding a system to your Wonders is super handy (thanks @Jaggid Edje) and will provide EVERYTHING needed to travel there via a portal (glyphs & galaxy)
Apologies if my reply was off the mark, often times my form of satire/humor falls flat. Polo
fair
Ok, so I do have some sort of portal address in glyphs, but no idea how to use it.
Once in the Wonders section, you must select an empty spot and give it a name
