so if i have read this right i would only need to upgrade motherboad ( currently running a Asrock Z77 Extreame 6 ) and ram to 64-bit specs.and prob 1TB SSD to put win10/11 on.
I updated from Win7 to Win10 on January 1 of this year; and it's been working out for me QUITE well, actually. Then again, that's probably because my PC was considered "high-powered" back in 2012. It's a Dell XPS 8500. Now, if I had bought what was then the latest Dell Inspiron model, that would be a different story: Inspirons from 2012 WOULD be potato PC's today!
You can run this game in Linux just fine BTW. Linux has been free for quite some time. Defrag your Windows 7 drive, then install ubuntu. Ubuntu has a tool that will resize your windows partition to make room to install Linux. I strongly recommend this option. You can also install a second drive in your PC just for Linux.
Works best if you use the native nVidia drivers (which you can install in Ubuntu). After a kernel update though, you'll have to reboot your system for the new drivers to load. This is one of the few times Linux requires a system restart after an update.
Windows 7 isn't supported anymore by anyone, and doesn't get security updates. Personally, I avoid using Windows now whenever possible. Some Windows games even work better in Linux than Windows (when using Proton under Steam). Ideally they would release a native Linux binary, but it works pretty well as is with Proton.
For security don't forgett that abbandon old Windows 7 is not getting attacked any more so much. Windows 10 on the other hand is not only ugly af, but also a huge mess. For every single task i need the double amount of clicks to get somewhere. The menu is a joke, - the "news" integration is mad, and the worst. Win 7 eats up 220mb of VRAM not 2.5GB like Windows 11.
I am pretty sure Windows will be a close OS in the future like MAC OS. To prevent this and stay free i would higly recommend to install Linux. There is so much freedom in that os, it's insane. I mean, Steam OS is linux and things go pretty well with games currently and in the future.
Hugs
Just install classic shell like everyone else does.
Hugs.
If your not sure how have a look at this https://www.windowscentral.com/how-do-clean-installation-windows-10
Your motherboard is fine that doesn't make any difference its the CPU and in fact upgrading to 64-bit will give you more access to more then 4 GB under windows.
AND dont forget to make a back up of all your personal items before you do anything as I not going to be held responsible for any thing that you have deleted :-)
i'm running win7 pro 64-bit. and i have just found out today/yesterday that my cpu is 64-bit.i'm just going to upgrade to win11 64-bit and upgrade the RAM
