Large prefab buildings with multiple levels
A quick (beginner) question regarding these large prefab building parts, just to make sure I'm not missing something here.

Is it correct that the only way to gain access to another floor level, is by ladder? Is there no way to place ramps going up? (When I try to connect ramps to an existing structure, they always point down)

The standard way is ladders or shortrange teleporters. There're ways to fix the ladders using mods so they don't grab you like that.

You could also add a section that uses cuboid connected to the other prefabs. The way cuboids work is that the walls and floors between them disappear anywhere that you connect cuboids to one another, allowing you to go multi-level with stairs (there are stairs specifically for the interior of cuboid rooms).

I do that in some bases, just for a change to the normal SRT or ladder approach.
When you build a large room space with cuboid rooms, you can also put in floors with the cuboid floor part. Ramps will connect to the floor parts or cuboid walls. Cuboid walls are created in two ways by default (from unused space - no cuboid room parts placed) or by adding the thin wall panels. Wall panels can I think be placed freely without snapping and also coloured in full, unlike the walls of cuboid room parts. The thin walls can be decorative panels for cuboid walls. Ramps I think only connect to cuboid room parts and cuboid floor parts, not the thin walls.

Also be prepared for ramps not to snap intuitively. You may need to place floors before placing ramps as part placement follows rules. So you may have to delete parts in a particular order, place ramps, then replace the parts deleted and so on. It can be a bit fiddly but still fun and less frustrating if some simple placement rules through trial and error are followed.

If parts can be free placed (snapping turned off ) then free placing parts can sometimes help place awkward parts. Careful free placing of ladders which can be stacked without snapping, on top of one another can still be climbed if gaps are not too large. You can use most objects as temporary placeholders (from posters, cabinets to lamps) to stack up objects or raise them into place. Then delete the temporary objects when finished. Temporary objects can be enlarged or angled to be easily selected and deleted once finished with.

If feeling brave, you can also quite simply glitch parts into place which is a useful technique. There is plenty of helpful tips on glitch building online. The simple wire glitch is most useful.
