Can I play in VR without the tracked controllers?
I'd like to know if I can play this game wearing an Oculus Quest and using mouse, keyboard and flight sim joystick to control the ship flight.
I can do just that in another game I play, so I was wondering if I can do the same in NMS. Move around and interact using mouse and keyboard, and fly the ship using my joystick, while at the same time have an immersive 360 view around me with the Quest. Is it possible?

Some guy says he managed it, but it's a complicated way. By default, no.

indeed, its "possible" but the experience is rather horrid. theres a lot of issues especially on the walking part of the game.

Last time i tried was to be fair, a long time ago, but it involved very weird aiming with my mining gun and some control just straight out not working until i used a virtual "vr controller" driver that let me map some stuff to mouse and keyboard then it being seen ingame as a vr controller.

Just to be clear tho, it "worked" but it was not a fun experience.

So to answer your question, "yes but youll need to work a lot for very little result" tldr, no.

you know, after reading your answer I'm beginning to understand that "that other game" chose pancake-only mode for all on-foot action, and that might be the reason... because everythiing else in the game is in "cockpit-mode" so that you're supposed to always be seated while playing, which makes it perfectly natural to just look around and still have your hands on mouse and keyboard.
