Feeling a little stuck, or maybe in the wrong place at the right time.
I am doing the Autophage mission where you build your staff. I made it past the first group and got the long staff piece. It told me to find another inhabited world and speak with some Autophage folks there. I got to one, but it doesn't have the "camp". It is just one of the locator poles that take you a minor settlement. They are there and the machine were you craft a staff. It told me to use the special MT scanner and one of them would be marked as the one I need to get another piece of the staff. I do that and nothing changes.

I am on one of the purple crystal planets (disconnsent or whatever- hate how they named this stuff) so maybe I was supposed to find just a normal "inhabited planet"? I feel like I am in the wrong place but not sure if I just need to look for a "camp" with the wheelbarrows and crap everywhere or do I need to find a non-purple crystal planet.

The tech you installed on your multi-tool "unmasks" Autophage camps at many POIs including Beacons, Debris, Drop Pods etc that used to be devoid of any NPCs.
From experience: make sure you have the right Multi-tool (with the tech installed) active before you hit C to scan. It wont unhide them if you have switched to another tool.

You also get a 2nd multi-tool tech that you have to fuel with Atlantideum and actively select to scan for camps, but I don't think you're at that stage yet.

I do have the mt tech that I fuel with Atlandtideum. I used it to find the camp. That is what I used to get the marker for the NPC I need to talk with. Did I use the wrong tool?

Ah, Ok, I mis-read what you could see.
So you have unmasked the Autophage a a Beacon, but none of them are marked as the target you need to talk to to progress the staff building?

I'm a little hazy on the exact sequence (even though I just did it on one of my saves last week). Have you checked whether you have the blueprint for the 2nd part already and haven't built it?

What does your mission log say?

I will double check that. Don't remember getting a second Mt bp, but I know I only have one right now. Game has been quick on throwing stuff recently. Half the time the icon comes and fades so quick I can't even make out what I am being gifted.

Thank you for your help. Appreciated. At least I feel like I am not completely in the wrong place anymore. That was my main concern that I was just spinning my wheels instead of moving on to a normal planet.

I have recently gone back to an old save to finish off the main quest etc. I just finished the autophage quest and man o' man did i keep getting monkey-ed up on it. Hell, DIdn't go thru this the 1st time. Anyway, I kept using the C button to scan instead of going into my multitool to scan directly with the tech

There is an A class tech called a Scan Harmoniser and an S class tech called a Polyphonic Core.
Only the Polyphonic Core finds campsites, but they both (i believe) unhide the Autophage at the camp and reveal Echo Seeds, so you probably only need the Polyphonic Core installed.
I usually have both so cannot confirm it works without the Scan Harmoniser.

I apologize for not reading all the above but in order for the quest to proceed the three camps you visit must be in different systems. They tell you that in passing but if you stay in one system and go from planet to planet, wont work. Or just from camp to camp on same planet.

And as others noted, the scanning for quest is unintuitive, to put it nicely. lol

I was running into an issue with this one too. I made the staff shaft (first piece) and thought I had to show it to the people at the next camp. Nope, I needed to show it to the person who gave me the blueprint for the quest to continue. I was moving too fast and the game needed a few moments to register and update several things.
I am stuck again. The mission wants me to find The Terminal Prime...but I have no idea what that is or where I would look for it. No icon, nada.

I finally did get past my first stuck part. I have doing tasks for the Autophage thinking maybe they will give me a clue but starting to get bored with that after about 10 missions.

You'll probably appreciate your unintentional irony, but the Terminal Prime is Priest Entity Nada's simulator in the Anomaly.

Reading through this again, but are you talking to the same phage that gives you the blueprint again?

Task > Talk > Blueprint > Talk > Create > Warp > repeat.
I finally got that one put to bed. That was messy even for NMS. I guess it might have felt more solid if there were not all the weird gltiches and minor bugs in the game right now. That always make you doubt whether this is just an obtuse mission or something is glitching out on you. Still kind of pissed with them using "Terminal Prime" without any clue to go the
Anomaly. I would have probably figured it out if I knew where to start looking.
Yeah, I ran around on the same planet for way too long talking to groups, then to a couple of other planets before I went back and figured out I actually had to go to different systems to get each part. Obtuse is a good term. LOL

The last time I did it, it felt a little rough, but I think that was 90% on me. "I know what I'm doing, I can rush through this without paying full attention." As soon as i slowed down, stopped being cocky & started playing the game again, it went a lot smoother. I just remember forgetting to talk to them again after they gave me the blueprint.

I also vividly remember having to warp back 3 systems several times because I was getting ahead of myself - oh I got the stick & the other 2 pieces need to be from a new system, let's go! 20 minutes later... ♥♥♥♥, I have to go back because I rushed through a step.
