Turns out the base had not vanished, only its icon in the UI, and also my ship and exocraft lost their icons as well, so i cannot locate anything.
I noted it was a very active system, since i had built that base during an expedition. I think that was the underlying problem.
I tried turning off multiplayer and reloading, but that did not work so i deleted that base.
(Yes, this is a bit satirical, but it fits the lore at least)
Quest do break, it's a known fact. Living Ship questline is infamous for that, Nexus missions would send you to the same spot where there is nothing there, Settlements can be bugged, Trace of Medal and Dreams of the Deep are bugged too, etc. and there are plenty of glitches and bugs in this game, more than in any other game I ever played.
The only bases that can disappear though are skybases close to the edge of space. I never heard of disappearing bases otherwise.
Still, it's my most played game ever as, despite the issues, it's far from a complete mess and as a sandbox it's great. I don't do quests. It offers a sense of freedom that no other game ever did. It has a lot of unfulfilled potential though, it could have been a much better game.
But I refrained form leaving a review as Steam review is gonk. Simply "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" is not enough to rate a game. NMS does not deserve thumbs down, but it neither deserves thumbs up. If we had a star rating I'd give it 4 out of 5.
Otherwise, only real bug I've had was flying to a planet and getting stuck on those massive indestructable tree things (the SUPER massive ones) that I couldn't see due to a super storm and got stuck inside of it and had to spend like 20 shield cells while I tried to jimmy it out. Though the game isn't without flaws, like the build system is just such a pain in the ass. Placing ♥♥♥♥ is hit or miss sometimes and don't even get me started on how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ asinine Communication Stations are.
But, every game has its... quirks that annoy some people. I know there are some that annoy me. Most recently, I didn't get the reward for one of the expedition milestones. I ended up editing my save, rather than replaying 10 hours just to risk running into the same bug again. (It was a recipe that didn't unlock when it should have and was needed for the next milestone)
So yah, you're right, but it's also good. And none of the glitches are deal breakers. So people review it positively.
The type of person who is more inclined to ignore positives and focus on the negative, at this point, are just not buying the game because it is 'known'....and you can't review the game if you don't have it in your library. Ergo, the game is getting a lot more positive than negative reviews.
Yup, as if they never played the game or just say so to feel good about themselves. The Goatfungus Save Editor originated basically as a necessity to fix broken quests, broken saves and game-stopping bugs.
As you said, there are well documented bugs in the game, lots of them as well as bad UI and UX issues that were never addressed by the devs.
But yeah, overall, there is nothing like NMS out there. The game is unique and it's possible to work around the bugs or mod them out. But it can get frustrating at times.
Also probably Most People don't experience this kind of stuff and leave Mostly Positive reviews as a result, weird how crowd metrics work like that. Or maybe they're willing to look past stuff like that and enjoy the game, I dunno.
That statement is completely illogical.
If a game deserves bad reviews, it will get them.... look at the DLC Dark Avatar for Empyrion
This game simply deserves its positive reviews.
The people who are likely to give it a bad review are new players who cannot figure out how to play the game - i know, because i almost did that, but i persevered and quickly became obsessed with it.
Yes, and this game did, like crazy. It took over 8 years to get to "overall" very positive. And as a result the people most likely to be overly critical are still avoiding it, despite the comeback story.
You'd know this yourself if you spend any time in the discussion forums of other games. NMS still has a a lot of haters out there.
It's great to focus on the comeback story, but it's blinded you to the reality of the game and it's reputation among more critical gamers.
Don't get me wrong, I actually like the game. My initial reaction was very similar to yours. I actually did walk away with a bad taste in my mouth the first time I played it. Then came back to it and it's become my 2nd-most played game of all time.
I'm simply stating reality, not saying that I think the game is bad.
Hahahaha, how do you think i found out about this game?
It indeed gets talked about on other game forums.... specifically for me, that was Empyrion, since i played that game first, and i played Empyrion because it was talked about on the Forum for Space Engineers. Space engineers somehow managed to be a USEFUL game advertised by Steams load screen, shocking i know right!
Edit: The main negative comment about NMS was its shallow.... when i first started getting into it i thought their crazy.... now i have been playing it a while, i totally get it, it is shallow, absolutely, but still fun. (I should clarify, that for an Empyrion player, NMS is shallow)
