I guess this might be considered "cheaty," and maybe it's not something you want to do, but since I play pretty much everything else on the hardest possible setting, I just don't care. Since you can, for instance, magically and instantly summon a freighter from many light years away, I would say that magic is canon in this game. :)
No cheating imo also our freigthers have free power too and no wires :), if I had known how bad it becomes with those wires the bigger you build I'd done that too unfortunately I din't look at all options either I just cranked the difficulty up after learned the game. Problem now for me is though I only play one save, I love my save and what I've build.
Removing every wire I've build on all bases would be too tedious and I'd still like to keep my solar panels, etc even if I would use your solution which would still at least require some wiring, just for looks.
So imo the best solution for our ewnjoyment is to just make them invisibe, I mean I'm no programer, but maybe making them invisible and throwing the electrical cloaking unit in the bin might be easier than trying tio fix a problem that's been in the game for years, but what do I know.
Make them visible in wiring mode, other wise invisible ?
