That is too convoluted and I can tell no one would enjoy such a cumbersome unbuilding system.
Someone else tell me the actual way to do it that doesn't require entering a menu, entering a mode from that menu, and then actually being able to do the desired action.
The only other way to delete them would be: When being in the main menu where to chose the save you want to play: Deleting that save. One click for deleting all of your base parts.
It doesn't matter if you think this way would be convoluted, because exactly that is the way. Use it and delete those parts or don't do it and have those parts in your base for all eternity. Your choice.
It's not really convoluted, you soon get used to it. The same process is used for moving, rotating, changing colour etc.

The fact is, deleting things is very simple and requires a few key presses. Press Z, then C, then X. That's it. Not hard.

You need to enter "build mode" in order to access that feature. You can't just go straight to it. So... it's a build-mode submenu feature.
