Bigger ship flying around on planets
Hi, can someone explain what are the meaning of some big ship slowly flying around in the sky while exploring planets ? They looks like small frigate and makes tons of noise when warping on planets.
When i go back to my own ship and approching them i can see some landing pad on them. But there is no interaction. They litterally disappear when i touch them or get too close.

They are frigates, they have no interaction. They are just eye candy. They were added as part of the Outlaws update.

It's just there to make you go, "Ooooh!" like little dancing lights to keep a kitten entertained.

It wouldn't be so bad, but it's so common and so in your face (they happen to arrive OVER YOU every time?) that it actually kills the idea of exploration or immersion.

Too much, too much, Hello Games.

They feel pretty epic the first time you see them. In my case I happened to be standing on a fairly steep cliff and one flew by at eye level. I was impressed.

After that, they just become another aspect, similar to the regular NPC ships that fly around on a planet.

Yea, first time it's epic. But Hello games has forgotten that to keep something Epic it has to happen every now and then- rarely. Not constantly or it gets boring fast.

As with many things, the problem with procedural generation programming is it does not do unique or even rare/special very well.

The ringed planets would retain a lot of awesomeness if they were NOT in almost every single system.

I guess you've never owned a freighter. If you do, and hire some frigates and send them on missions, you will understand what they are. I think they were intended to give the feel of other travellers out there doing the same things you do. The feeling of you encountering others' frigates just as others might encounter yours, as they carry out your missions.

While I think frequency of appearance of this eye candy and ringed planets are a bit too much now, I also think that the "maths" behind No Man's Sky could set frequency of occurrence. Formulas might even be able to tie chance of occurrence to presence of specific planet or resource types, etc.

I mean, different types of systems already have different frequencies of occurrence for Exotic ships, for example.

Maybe if a lot of people submitted feedback, ...
