Drone Companion Quest Bugged, I think?
Hey folks!

Hoping someone can help me sort this out.
I have built the little Sentinel drone companion, and talked to it, but it just keeps saying "I'm having so much fun,not!" Or something similar.


How do I trigger the next part of the quest, to start collecting parts for the Minotaur?

that mission string should be available to pick in the menu page that shows all your available missions to do. Can you select that mission? Doing so might pop up text that briefly mentions the status of the mission. Are you sure you haven't finished it off? What the Sentinel Companion ends up saying after the mission is done sounds very much like what you're describing yours as saying. But I think there's what, only like 3-4 parts that that mission string will unlock and prompt you to build on the Minotaur. All other Minotaur upgrades get purchased on the Anomaly from the Exocraft upgrade vendor. If none of that helps, perhaps someone else may have further advice. It's not in my list, sadly, and I haven't finished it. I've only got the drone built, and that's it. I've tried moving around to some other systems and back again, to try and refresh it. Summoning and unsumoning the drone a few times, but to no Avail :/

I've completed this quest 8 times, so I might be able to help you troubleshoot it. It can be finicky:
What stage are you in the quest, "Trace of Metal"?
Is the current stage highlighted in the log?
Are you in your settlement?
Does your minotaur have the AI installed?

The quest isn't showing in the log at all for some reason.
I am in my Settlement.
My Minotaur has its AI installed

At some point you need to go to a sentinel hive. I think you get an item in your inventory that will locate one for you?

I thought I might need to, so I fought a load of Sentinels, and got a location map from the loot, went and dealt with the pillar, and other than a nice Multi-tool nothing changed, sadly.

One of the first things I tried to do, to fix it :/

I don't know your level of experience so I have to ask stupid questions like:
You've already been to the anomaly to reconstruct the drone using the shell?
Did this mission get scrolled over to page 2 of your log list?

I have the drone, yeah. I did the whole rigmarole. As you can see, this is all it ever says when I interact with it. Not once has it ever said anything other than this https://imgur.com/a/Av3Av4R

Sometimes I have to jump in and out of the minotaur to prompt the drone for the next step, but the root of your issue could be "Trace of Metal" is not in your mission log. The game engine can't follow a non-existent mission. Can you post a screenshot of your log?

Steam->Library->NMS->
share your screenshot pic and make it public
Steam->Username->Content
Click on your pic, then click on the URL at the top of your pic
Copy&Paste URL in your forum post and its embedded

Well, I fixed it, after a spare of the moment idea. I uninstalled and re-installed the game, and the damn quest popped up as soon as I loaded the game on a fresh install. Job done, Quest complete, Now I have an AI controlled Sentinel-Style Minotaur and a (from what I can ascertain, useless) Drone follower! :) Thanks for helping everyone!

If the drone is near you and another sentinel drone is nearby the sentinel wont notice you

but if you stray too far away from the drone the sentinel will still spot you

good to know, i thought it was useless as well, or at least purely cosmetic.
