Experimental Branch 19/01
Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you’ve experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We’ll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man’s Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab. Enter “3xperimental” in the textbox and press “CHECK CODE”, then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch Update 26/01
  • Fixed a visual issue when using the terrain manipulator.

Experimental Branch 19/01
  • Stability improvements on PC.
  • Resolution and performance for PSVR have been significantly improved when running on a PS5.
  • Fixed a rendering-related crash on PS5.
  • Xbox Series S in high quality mode now has the improved Ultra settings introduced in the Next Generation Update.
  • Loading times on PS5 have been improved.
  • PS5 install size has been optimised.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

Perhaps, but it's seems other players have experience moments of instability.

Just updated and am still getting crashes to desktop after a random amount of time. Running a R5 3600, and RX 5700xt. It is the only game that ever crashes on me unfortunately, and just a heads up I love NMS.

@MakingToast, a lot of random crashes are fixed by disabling shader caching, at least for GeForce GPUs. I wish that got fixed, it's been a known issue for a long time.

Had only 3 crashes in almost 100 hours of play.
3 are still too many, but I can live with that.

3.1GB update with stability improvements only? this one might be a spicy one to data mine

What about improving gameplay? We start of on a planet, mining raw materials, fashion it to parts to fix our ship to be able to travel in to space, no stopping there, but to a different galaxy! Which is good, but how about giving us a way to track MORE than ONE node at a time? We're MORE advanced than ONE node at a time?

oh boy, If we start asking for some missing features or changes in gameplay, the list will be too vast. I wasnt going to say anything, because improving performance Is better than nothing (Again, they deserve respect for doing It) . But when I saw Hello Games made a discussion post, I was really curious hoping for some new features or fixing some bugs.

Edit: Is there a list or something of ''planned features" or such, that I could see? I would love to check It out.

That will come, this is just a minor patch or so if seems. Right now I think it's good that they focus on bug hunting for a while then another round of QoL updates.

It seems like ground textures are loading properly now when jetpacking around. Good job if it was actually fixed and I'm not imagining things.

Mine was only 1.7gb, which suggests they are replacing/updating existing assets rather than introducing new ones.

3.1GB update just for PC stability updates?
I've been having a LOT of fun with the game these past few weeks! Just wanted you guys to know that (if you do read this). It's an astonishing game at times and any small fixes are always welcome. Thank you for all your hard work and creativity during the difficult year for everyone and I am sure your team too.
