3070/3060 Ti VR performance
Anyone tried this game in VR yet with using a 3080/3070/3060 Ti. Curious about the results. Would like to know how much MS you are getting at what settings and SS.

Thanks :lunar2020hearteyesrabbit:

It's the strangest thing, I was playing this game on a RX 550 in VR and it was decent to me. Like not great but playable and I put several hours in. I just got a 3070 Ti updated the drivers, and I cannot get this game to run nearly as good as it did on the Rx 550. I don't know what is going on but I am having a ton of issues on a card that is light years ahead.

Latest update has introduced a tonne of stuttering, all related to huge CPU frametime spikes despite the fact that the CPU never goes about 70%.

Ah, I haven'tt played it sense. Maybe I will try it again and see if there are any improvements. Was a major bummer as I invested in this card mainly to play this game.

bought the 3070 few weeks after my original post.
I am guessing we could say the game is playable in VR but only on the lowest settings or near the lowest settings. Even then you will get hick ups and some buildings will cause massive fps drops.

Overall imo it's not worth it for just VR. Just to many drops and hickups
I can max the game out in non VR mode on 1440P with no issue's at all with this card.

I don't get all these "non-playable in VR" posts with relatively good GPUs. I have an RTX 2060 (6 GB), i3-8300 4x 3.7 GHz, 16 Gigs RAM, game on SSD, Windows 10, and a Reverb G2.

Sure I have not pumped everything to ultra - there are some sacrifices I have to make. SteamVR resolution at 60% and G2 set to 60 Hz. Some settings in VR to Enhanced or High, but none to Ultra.

I am consistently hitting 60 FPS with a frametime of about 11ms, and its perfectly playable and fluid.

Before one says NMS is utterly playable in VR, make sure you have walked down all avenues of configuration.

Guess it's subjective to what one would call playable. 60 fps and 60% resolution wouldn't cut it for me. But if you are enjoying the game keep at it. I am perfectly fine playing it on my regular screen. Game is amazing either way !

edit: Also I am pretty sensitive when it comes to fps drops and hick-ups specially in VR. Some people are also perfectly fine playing it in re projection all the time. If you or others reading this, fall in to this category you should definitely check it out in VR.

I've been getting good framerates with a 3080 laptop version but sadly I dislike that the UI doesn't follow your head so you're forced sometimes to try to align yourself to it which is really immersion breaking, it's one of those VR experiences that was made for couch PSVR, also the rocket boots will never send you off to where you're looking and instead align themselves with your "center" so you're either forced to play using the sticks or fight with the UI to make it work.

If any NMS dev goes here please just make this one change for VR: Let us have an option to let the center view's X rotation axis follow the headset view, it's literally the only change that needs to be made and the game will become a 10/10 VR experience.

With 60% resolution I am referring to 60% render resolution for SteamVR. I have a Reverb G2 which has 4K per eye - for which you will already need enormous horse power. Even Steam itself recommends 70% for resolution with my machine. In the Reverb G2 I get the 4K upscaled image as the headset does the scaling itself.

For me that is perfectly fine and playable - but also looking at my post with the specs, you can imagine that it is not the best for VR. This machine was also not meant for VR in the first place.

I reduced the rate to 60Hz in the headset as it gives more time to render the image. In the headset, I cannot discern a difference between 60 and 90 in NMS. Probably because I have never hit 90Hz in the first place with that setup.

Ah yeah good point about the native 4k on the g2. 60% is perfectly acceptable then.

A known issues with NMS and MSFS2020 (and who knows what else) in VR is G-Sync for whatever reason. Try completely disabling it in the Nvidia control panel (the universal setting) and you may see a massive performance boost. It's even gone from 5fps to 90 for some people because that's how badly it can screw things up.
This has especially been a problem with the 3000 series cards.
