NVM, i see you did scrap the ship in question so this can't be the problem...
You never directly get "credits", just the resultant scrap - to sell, and maybe a goodie or two to keep. There was recently another thread about this.
Scrapping ships is an expensive hobby now.
If you have a preferred way for him to understand the game, that isn't asking questions on this forum. Share that with him.
i'm thinking of like actual monetary units like if 1x carbon sells for (eg) 5u and you have to put 20x carbon into repairing everything in a crashed ship, that's 5*20=100u of in-game money spent... then doing the same thing to figure out the money value of all the stuff you get back from scrapping the ship...
figuring out all of that is what i'm asking about... i used to be really into that type of stuff but when i stopped working on accounting programs, i left all of that behind...
EDIT: also... how many money units is a nanite worth? that's something i don't think i've ever seen anyone talk about...
I used to to do exchanges using the SE. 5000 units to 1 nanite, 10,000 nanites to 1 QS.
The most efficient way to do it is to: (1) scrap, then (2) quickly sell all the loose upgrade modules to the dealers there for mucho nanites, then (3) fly down to the flight deck and sell the other commodities you just got to the nearest trader, then (4) look at the sales price of his ship, (if its a good one), if not just keep your eyes open for a good one that flies in while you are selling, and (5) keep buying ships until you fill up your ship parking quota, then (5) DECONSTRUCT all the internal upgrades in each ship you just bought, (yes do this or you lose their value), and (6) repeat. That way you clear 2 to 4 ships at a time rather than one by one.
Since you never know when an S-ship or exotic will fly in, I usually only buy up to the last parking space on my freighter, and always leave one parking spot available in case a rare ship flies in. This is all calculated in your head at the station...you just have to remember how many parking spots you have left.
Typically I will keep storage modules and stasis device components, since if you use those components to make stasis devices you will get far MORE units back than you ever spent on scrapping. I also keep the wiring looms and antimatter from the upgrade breakdown, just cuz. But if you don't know how to make stasis devices, and are just saving storage mods, then you should get at least 70% of the purchase price back. I usually will start scrapping with 100 million units, and that usually will last me a good hour or so. By the end you will have about 20,000 to 50,000 more nanites, plus enough stasis device components to easily make up the spread between your purchase price and return on selling.
So I can't complain. its easy money, especially for new players who are in need for it.
The better the class you scrap, the better the money you get.
