No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky

What are some useful tips that aren't very obvious?
I discovered that all the rusty metal I've been throwing away can actually be refined into ferrite dust (1 to 2), so I now have a massive amount without having to actually scrounge for rocks.

Anybody else?

Here's a great way to make nanites, especially early on...

As soon as you can, dig up enough of those buried things to buy the nutrient processor from the construction booth at the Nexus.

Then, using the recipe below, make a ton of Herb Encrusted Flesh, which will get you an average of 100 nanites each time you feed one to Cronus at the Nexus.

Here's how to make it. It's in two parts: the meat part, and the sauce part. Then you combine them:

The meat part:
You need to make some Mystery Meat Stew. There's a few ways to make it.
Meat method A: You need to collect various types of meat. Mixing some types with each other or with itself (using two nutrient slots), makes Mystery Meat Stew right away. Other meats don't mix with each other. The best bet is to process all meat on its own in the nutrient processor until it becomes Processed Meat. Store it in your nutrient processor's storage to save inventory space as you collect more. Processed Meat always mixes with itself (half in one processing slot and half in another) to become Mystery Meat Stew.
Or Meat method B: You need to collect either mordite, or faeces. If faeces, turn it into mordite in a regular refiner (not the nutrient processor). Once you have mordite, run it through a nutrient processor until it becomes eventually becomes meat chunks. Then, mix that with itself (half and half in two processing slots) to make mystery meat stew.

The sauce part:
Early on, you'll probably be in a lot of caves hiding from the weather. Collect all the cave marrow you can. When run through a nutrient processor a couple times, it eventually becomes Steamed Vegetables. A number of other plants will also become steamed vegetables, but some might need the hazardous gloves. Cave marrow's a sure thing early on, and it can be stored in the nutrient processor's extra inventory to save space. Some other foods that eventually turn into steamed veg after a couple of runs through the nutrient processor are solanium, gamma weed, fungus, and I think pulpy roots.
Once you have Steamed Vegetables, mix it with itself, half of them in one processing slot and half in another. It will become Flavoursome Sauce. You might need Hazard Gloves for some vegetables, but you can mine cave marrow without them.

The final product:
Mix the stew with the sauce in the nutrient processor. It will turn into Herb Encrusted Flesh.

A pile of 50 finished product will get you an average of around 5000 nanites. There are other similar recipes using Flavoursome sauce or other sauces mixed with meats or various vegetables that will make similar foods that get the same good nanites, but the above is the one I consider my old reliable favourite for early on. I set up multiple nutrient processors sometimes to make large batches with lots of machines going at once.

Better idea: ♥♥♥♥ the caves. Set up a farm for cactus flesh, gamma root, fungal mould, solanium or star bulbs. Get a farm for mortite. Get some sodium. Now for the fun bit.

Toss the plants in a processor for carbon. Combine carbon and sodium 1 to 1 for sodium nitrate. Process sodium nitrate for 2 sodium. Congrats, you can now turn carbon into sodium for farmable sodium nitrate. Combine sodium nitrate and mortite 1 to 1 for 4 marrow bulbs.

Bonus round! Get some cobalt. Combine marrow bulbs and cobalt 1 to 1 for 2 ionized cobalt. Break it down in a refinery for 4 cobalt.

For some extra resources, you can toss 30 hydrogen in a refinery for hydrogen jelly, then toss that in a refinery for 50 hydrogen. Loop for free hydrogen. Combine 1 chromatic metal with 1 of indium, emeril, cadmium or copper to dupe the latter. As indium and emeril convert to more than one chromatic metal per, you can create infinite of all five resources with only a small amount of starting material.

So you find it fun standing around waiting for your refiners to process stuff? Weird.
Since we're talking about the Nutrient Processor. Some basic ingredients for cooking pretty much everything:

Frost Crystal --> Glass Grains --> Refined Flour

Cactus Flesh --> Cactus Nectar --> Processed Sugar

Faecium --> Wild Yeast

Milk --> Cream --> Butter ( combine 2 butter to create clarified oil)

and more - https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Products_-_Consumable

when starting out, focus on acquiring exosuit mods of S rank for jetpack, shield, then life support with your nanites. 3 of each, and then cram them all into your technology tab by maxing that out. it will make life a lot easier for the early game while your getting built up.

No, but I prefer working on my base while my stuff processes to sitting in a cave with fewer features than a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ desert.

You have to buy it at the anomaly now?

Is it no longer made in the tutorial?

The refinery that's built-in to your exosuit is only learned via nanites. You still get the standard portable refinery during the tutorial.
oh I hate the module refiner because it makes so much noise
