Stranded lifeform marker doesn't go away (RESOLVED)
Hi :)

Through a planetary chart (distress signal) I flew to a stranded lifeform. I repaired his ship and he thanked me and flew off.
The 'quest marker' is still there though. It didn't go away even after restarting the game.

In an old post here I found the solution 'Use booster and use Drop Pod one'.
I have no idea what that means xD

Would someone please explain this in noob terms?

Thanks :)

[EDIT]
Found the solutions elsewhere in the discussions.

0. Backup your save. The default path on WIndows is:
C:\Users\Windows Username\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS

1. Fire up the editor, select your save, and select Edit -> Edit Raw JSON.
2. In the JSON editor, go to PlayerStateData -> MarkerStack.
3. Find an entry that contains "Table":6 and "BuildingClass":"NPCDistressSignal".
4. Remove this entry. Close the JSON editor, and save.
5. Close the save editor, and save.
6. Fire up NMS, you should see the persistent marker now gone.

(Step 4 means you have to highlight and remove the text from the right hand side window)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Applied this and the marker is gone :)

I am not sure, but I believe it means for you to use your signal booster. You can make one if you don't have one in your suit inventory to deploy. They can be handy to have around.

You can buy and use a drop pod locator. You deploy that from the signal booster. Drop Pods will give you a "free" slot in your suit once you repair it. The ingredients are pretty easy to obtain.

The minor settlements usually sell the drop pod locators...it is not something you can buy from the map guy.

I made a signal booster and used a drop pod thingy. I found an exosuit inventory slot, so that's good :)
But that marker is still there.

That very same thing has happened to me on two separate occasions. Nothing I ever did caused those markers to go away. Only option is to get used to it. Eventually you move on to a new star system and forget about it.

The crashed freighters have/had? the same glitch. You just have to remember not to go there until you move on. Not hard because the crashed freighters are not very interesting once you have done one.

You're right in recalling that, but I believe HG finally did come up with a permanent fix. The "Drop Pod" trick used to work for the freighter (used it a few times), but not for the stranded lifeform. Best to do a Manual save before helping the lifeform and just reload if the marker persists. Unfortunately, new players wouldn't know this can happen in advance....

They recently fixed maps abit, did you try using maps until you got another stranded pilot and see if that fixes it.

Limit to how many of those you can have up btw, i usually fly by so i can get the crashed ship. 2 of the flags are marked with same symbol and you can have both a crashed ship and a stranded pilot flags up at one time.

This means if you dont land for stranded pilot and you have the freighter ,building and radar flags up every map you use will be another crashed ship as long as that is the only one you visit.(in that system)

Yes sometimes it gives error, just keep trying till you have each of the flags up.

Besides finding navigation data from random boxes/flagpoles you can purchase them at some bases on planets. up to 150 i have seen before, usually 4-40 depending on vendor type.

So far, I got most of my maps from practicing my language skills with the aliens. May have found some in boxes, not sure.

I happened to have another distress signal map, but when I activated it, the mission marker flashed up very shortly, during the camera down movement you get after the game finds the location. By the time I had control over the game again, only the stranded lifeform marker was visible.

That has been my experience with the map/chart changes, regardless of type. You must go to the location discovered & clear it before a new map/chart will work. Hence the OP’s issue. <- glad you got it resolved.

Charts I’ve confirmed that work this way:
Distress
Alien structure
Secure facility

Edit: I believe the new message is something like: “you already have a marker……” which forces you to go & clear it
