Some players swear AT them
I'll take option 2 and never install them again
Interesting, I mean i'm sure I could think of a lot of instances where they'd be useful if I tried, but I just didn't like the feeling of being involuntarily launched forward when im just trying to move a couple units to the left lol, maybe if we could bind them to some other key that we DON'T press rapidly already.
I tried them once, and I can't count the number of times that I couldn't get them to work right when I wanted to use them and then they worked when I didn't want them to. I may or may not just be bad at jetpacking, but still...
But yeah, I have died a few times because of that 'bonus jump' when landing, and the worst part is the cliff climbing. Once I learned melee boost I got rid of the rocket boots and never regretted it.
What I just found out recently is that you actually need to have rocket boots installed to get a secondary boost of speed on planet surfaces by feathering jetpack to barley glance the ground after a melee boost while holding Q and W.
I've been describing this secondary speed boost forever, but have been confused at the lack of enthusiasm from others. It's all so clear to me now. You need to have rocket boots installed for the extra speed boost and relatively few people keep them installed.
Double tap jump, which propels you forward.
- You can also stay airborne for longer with short taps, especially if you have fast fuel refuelling upgrades and longer jump distance.
- The rocket boost works best with an upgraded jet pack (minimum x3 C-class movement upgrades, best x3 S-class upgrades or better)
- They're also quite useful in combat situations while continuing to fire primary or secondary weapons.
- They can be used inside space stations to get around speedily in a single bound, the anomaly, freighters or other interiors and can be used while building. The melee jump will not function.
Controllers and buttons arguably are more intuitive than a keyboard space bar in practice.3 cheap jet-pack upgrades can be easily purchased at the Anomaly vendor if you have none at all.
Note; I'm not judging or anything. I'm just curious to know if there are other people who prefer staying on the ground. :)
Yep. Absolutely.
The reason is that the way I enjoy playing is to thoroughly explore the planets I land on, collecting data as to what each planet offers. I like to walk around and find all the things. All the plants/minerals/animals. I like to discover what rare items each planet has. If I'm jetpacking all over the place, then I'm missing lots of things, so I don't see the point. On occasion, if I'm looking for some specific building on a planet, I'll hop in my ship and fly low and slow over the surface until I find it, but mostly I tromp around on foot and see what I can find.
I'm weird. I know. :)
