Modding support on PC?
Do you guys know if Sean or anyone else at Hello Games mentioned modding support for NMS?

Most likely not because it IS a multiplayer game.

Mods could break procedurally generated environments. This would not be permitted.

Exactly. Not everything in NMS is proceduraly generated, so it should be easily possible to tweak and insert things like different skins for the Omni Weapon (and even different tools/weapons) or to add to the map view and such

i was thinking about this. starbound uses tons of random generation. it also has a bucket ton of mods. people add new monster bits. they add new and custom planets. and of course someone always adds a light saber. some mods alter the UI. people always want their player hair. lol. and none of it breaks the game.

He said he wanted to give people tools instead of having people tear apart the game.

Mods may not break the game, but I honestly hope they do break uploading discovery/event -data to Atlas/NMS servers.

Major stuff done by players is shared among everyone via NMS servers.

If you mod a light saber into your game, why not a galaxy destroying super bomb or a planet destroying death star... guess what happens?
You destroying the universe will be shared with everyone, and because we are all in the same universe we are all ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

- So modding will either be very limited, or take your game into offline mode.

That would require access to a scripting system. Since the game doesn't have a scripting system, I think we've dodged that bullet.

Sean Murray said he wants to give people modding tools and hopefully they wont break the game with it. There will be an offline mode in which you cannot meet other players, so most likely modding the single player will be possible.

they might do in the steam workshop is to make assets or like things in the universe like you can make your own plant, animal, buildings, etc like in cities skylines.

i don't know if that's the case, but it would be interesting to be abble to insert base plants andd animals and then have the procedural system elaborate from those thousands of different crazy species
