Can I just fly around and explore planets?
I gather there's been a lot of features added to this game over time, but I kinda just wanna have a chill time flying to different planets and exploring stuff.

If I get the game with that intention am I going to suddenly find I'm punished for not doing some sort of survival stuff or collecting enough skybux to pay ship rent or anything?

Hope it's okay to ask here - when looking elsewhere for an answer, I've just ended up being shown more stuff which I would have liked to discover myself.

yes but you have to do some required things before you have that capability, such as fix your starship.

There are now customization settings where you can skip the tutorial, get everything free, change your survival details.... You name it. The game is all about how you want to play it. Everything the game gives you in the story lines can be bought at the Anomaly except for the glyphs. But those can be gotten through the dead npc traveler ghosts that you come across. Jump in and play with the customization's that can even be changed during game play.

You CAN just fly around and explore systems and planets. You can set the parameters for your game pretty finely and not have to do much of anything.

That was the original game when released and it still exists. There is just a ton of options available. I could see getting bored if I made it super easy, but that is me.

That sounds ideal, thanks so much for the explanation! I look forward to getting going :D

I appreciate the reply!
Sounds like it's customisable to your liking, which is ideal :)

Yeah, I will likely get more into the specific systems at some point, but wanted to be sure it wasn't some sort of requirement to just exploring!

Yes, but there's a caveat. You could play custom and remove the Tutorial then you do the basic which is quick-fix your ship then off you go... BUT if you don't know how to play the game you'll be lost.

Except the Tutorial takes AGES, but I advise you do it first. Then you can just fly about and just explore, which is what I do.
