Oxygen Harvester
I'm a new player that is learning along the way. I have been perusing some of the conversations here and notice alot of banter about oxygen harvesters as something people want when starting a new game.

Why?

oxygen is the most useful resource for refiner crafting. Many different useful recipes use oxygen in them.

Chlorine +Oxy yields a lot more Chlorine. One of the many get rich quick schemes.

Also, you continually need oxygen so if there's a gas cloud near a base it's a gimme just to get rid of that annoyance.

Oxygen is very useful, but the harvester is not necessarily the best way to get it. Unless it has changed the harvester is kind of a pain because it does not harvest very much and I have always had to babysit it when I tried to use it. Once you can scan for the mineral, gas, and electrical hotspots, when you find an oxygen hotspot and you put a gas extractor on it that is very useful. Just the experience I have had, but I mostly play normal and that might make a difference.

Oxygen is by far IMO the most useful refiner resource, seemingly most elements can be doubled or more using oxygen.

I have found the best way to get oxygen is use Star Bulbs, Kep Sacs, and Condensed Carbon in refiner. For only about a thousand of each you can generate a stack of oxygen. I have found star bulbs are often on worlds that have oceans to get kelp sacs making it a useful combo for oxygen generation.

Oxygen is an incredibly useful resource, as it is used in quite a few refining recipes for item multiplication., which means if you mass produce Oxygen, you never have to worry about harvesting or producing any of those other resources ever again.

Some examples:

2 Oxygen + 1 Chlorine = 6 Chlorine
1 Oxygen + 1 Ferrite Dust = 1 Rusted Metal = 2 Ferrite Dust
1 Oxygen + 1 Sodium Nitrate = 2 Sodium Nitrate
2 Oxygen + 1 Ionized Cobalt = 6 Ionized Cobalt
1 Faecium + 1 Oxygen = 3 Faecium

With 4.0 Waypoint, the game makes finding easy volumes of oxy at the station not a thing anymore. Now, you have to pick it from plants, as a secondary element, or figure out a way to refine it. Unless you are trying some get rich quick scheme, you really don't need that much to play effectively. But, it is not easy like before.

If you die in a survival/survival custom mode, you lose all your inventory, so that is a bummer, and makes having a back up of oxy helpful.

So, what are you saying> You let the extractor soak up a bunch of oxygen while your off doing w/e then come gather it, mix it with chlorine, multiply the chlorine, then sell chlorine?

Chlorine harvesting has had expected returns reduced just like all high valued products that can be mined or collected since update. You can still do it just dont expect posts prior to the update to be correct on returns. Your better off setting up mining hotspots for resources to sell to the market you may not need earlier on.

Oxygen harvesters may bug out (zero return) if you leave them too long. Always check the run time and be back before that clock runs down should avoid the issue of them returning nothing from fuel input. Leave them longer and get nothing.

Best to target minotaur from nexus as it will help gather resources and grab salvage data quickly and provide protection in harsh environments when away from ship.

I make 40 stasis devices a day and any resources I dont need after crafting those I just sell (100 hours into new survival game mode). Mines produce 25k units a day from various resources.
