The tech blueprints for freighter items only needs to be unlocked once, after that they stack up pretty quickly, I sell mine and just keep one stack of 60 in case more tech options are added to the game.
It is no more of a grind than any other aspect of this game, plus the rewards are very good if you wish to make best use of a freighter. In fact it seems less of a grind than doing endless nexus/space station missions to me. Your opinion may differ of course, but unless you've actually done a few it is difficult to see how you opinion has been formed.
Yup, I knew someone was going to beat me. Hehehehe. Was hoping you'd found a slightly better upgrade, but that's a lucky freighter find. Nice one!
If you want to try out the first derelict I linked, it's an infested one. Which can mean that you could do it as an all stealth-run. However, I also discovered you could also just double tap the neutron cannon every time you come to an infested nest. Dang thing has "Easy Mode" now. 11 rooms, but 3 are dead ends you can totally skip, just ignore any door with pink numbers above it. In, bunch of alien legs everywhere, out.
That is a very neat arrangement for the supercharged slots, especially if you're using them for the warp distance boost. The A class I had in my new save after the update had three in a line, on the second row down starting from the first on the left. The S class I encountered has them in a more scattered pattern, but I use them for my fleet upgrades instead of warp, so it isn't too bad.
It's a grind because you are doing it just to get resources. I don't do anything in the game just to get resources unless I'm critically low on something.
That's fair enough. I don't set up mines etc for similar reasons, but I see doing the derelicts every so often as a bit of a change. I tend to take my time and upgrade things slowly as I explore rather than racing to max everything out straight away. I tend to retire saves once I run out of things to upgrade.
does this actually make a difference to the bonus, i just assumed aslong as the same tech was side by side and lit up it was getting the bonus
The class of the module doesn't always matter all that much. I mean, Xaine did a video a year or two back about "greater" and "lesser" bonuses, but those aren't really applying to freighter hyperdrives. At least not that I've seen here. Slap any module next to any other module, and it'll provide the same type of adjacency bonus. Think of them all as "greater".
I took another look at SirProsik's idea, though. Grouping them by letter doesn't make sense, because if you look at the range each one grants you, they're actually different. For instance, the A class "Reality Dethreader" you research has a range of 800 LY. This makes it actually better than the S classes you find on derelicts. They're 250 LY, +100% efficiency. I'm not sure the efficiency matters much if you can squeeze more range out of the engine. The B class "Plasmatic Warp Injector" gives 300 LY. C class "Warp Core Resonator" is where you find your first step-down from an S class, it's only 200 LY. Then you have the three 50 LY "color" upgrades, which you really only need to place if you're filling gaps in a stack. Each one is 50 LY, but you can place it next to something with more than 50 LY and it'll give both modules a bonus.
With that in mind, I realized that it didn't matter as much that both boosted slots were touching, so long as the boosted modules were touching other modules with decent bonuses. Resorting got me this:

In this setup, Reality Dethreader is boosted at B-4, Plasmatic Warp Injector is the second boosted slot at A-5. These are not touching each other, but they're sharing two S classes. Warp Core Resonator is pulling up the bottom left corner, giving a bonus to both the main boosted slot, and an S class. Swapping it with the S class on its right actually degraded the hyperdrive range. Hyperdrive is touching the final point of the Reality Dethreader "+", since its giving a better bonus in that position than moving the third S class over. The three 50 LY color boosts are making up the right wall. Didn't matter which order of these three, as long as they end up there I get the same total.
This appears to be the best possible setup for the boosted slot configuration I started with. I suspect a "perfect" freighter boosted slot configuration probably resembles the Old English letter "thorn". You put your Reality Dethreader dead center, then you've got a boosted slot above, below and to the left or right to work with.
AmberAnvil really got lucky there with the third boosted slot in his stack. I guess I managed to get within 100 LY of the champ, though. I can live with that. Anyway, thanks everyone for your feedback. It was fun seeing just how far you could push a freighter.
Literally stumbled upon this one a couple weeks ago. Wasn't certain I could do better than I did with EV-3 Fujiidak. And, you know, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I wonder where that fourth Supercharged slot is?
Fully upgraded, how does the hyperspace fuel efficiency of the freighter compare to a starship?
The Warp Efficiency of 2.7 gives you 40 jumps per Warp Hypercore.
