How many “S” class ships did you scrap? The way I read your post it sounds like several.
When it happened I reloaded the game and tried again and got the C class upgrades again. So I reloaded, shut the game down and restarted, its still giving C class after the restart. That's why I asked if it had been changed.
I don't see how it can be an S ship if it has C upgrades. It is an exotic so i have no doubt about the class of the ship (hasn't been upgraded to S class from C) so i don't know.
I've scrapped a lot (at least 300,000 nanites worth of scrapping) and I have never seen an S-class drop less than S-class modules or A or B class more than their grade either for that matter. And I check each time. So if that is the case it is very very rare.
Regular S-class ships usually, but not always, give S-class upgrade modules.
Exotics always give S-class upgrade modules.
Just my experience.
