Are there planet types where predator animals are more likely to spawn?
Or is there no weighting and they're all equally balanced?

I think any planet with lots of fauna gives you the best chance. Conversely, planets with just a couple of fauna, like glitch or mechanical type planets will not spawn aggressive predators.

Types... No. But they do still exist and it is a long shot now to find one.

I have found the majority of predators on cold planets. That's not an anecdote. That's from scrolling through my discoveries list.

What If you only visit cold planets?

It is not that rare to find planets with predator types...it they anything over five or six. It is much more rare to find interloper eaters that will attack you as a player. For whatever reason, I associate them with extreme weather planets...but maybe that is because they add to the catch as catch can nature of the exploring.

It can be challenging on extreme worlds with two or three different land predators. You tend to be under constant attack by something. Kind of fun for a short burst...but would not want a base on one.

I have 394 hours on my current save which is the first Exp 4 save. I did a complete uninstall and reinstall along with deleting my old saves for that one update. The only aggressive fauna I have encountered during this save are the expedition sand worms. 3 galaxies and a multitude of planet types and fauna counts. None for me. The last planet type I recall with aggressive fauna was a toxic planet, somewhere around 8-10 fauna and one I took on as a pet. It would attack and kill those that tried to attack me. But that save is long gone.

I've always mixed it up, especially in the early game where I explore on foot and use 5 AMUs to harvest resources. I try to build up a stock pile of things. Pyrite as pulse drive fuel so I can use all my tritanium for frigate missions. Dioxite for cold protection and life support. Phosphorus for the mining bean and heat protection. Uranium for toxic protection and as launch fuel.

Once I get a number of systems explored and some way of making cash I switch to buying what I need from the space stations and then I mainly focus on cartographic maps and I go to the planets those lead me to. I don't really care at that point what their biome is.

I'm running into predators reasonably frequently. Visit less obviously pleasant worlds.

I actually saw one creature attack and kill another. I didn't stick around to find out what happens next.

My experience is similar. The planets with the most aggressive fauna are usually mild weather or paradise planets.
