It's great for this kind of situation
Is that a recolor of any ship you want or just locations of specific ships?
There is also an online and mobile app where you punch in what ship you are looking for with all the variables such as type, shape, wings, color and galaxy. Most of the time you can find something exact or very close to what one looks for. They are an extremely helpful group of explorers.
There is also these, but they are depots for HEX seeds, the one in particular is immense. Hex seeds are to be used with the NMSSaveEditor, but caution is advised because poking around in other file locations using the editor can corrupt.

I guess while I'm out of game I'll give a brief on how ship seeds work. After installing the editor, opening it, you pick a game slot (Your main save or other saves). This activates the multiple tabs up top, select the ship tab. Where it says "ship" that drop down will show what ships are being used in that save. It lists all the stats for that ship and so on.
To use a seed just copy one from those site I listed above, that you like, into the space that says "SEED". The "generate" button is a randomizer. There is already a seed in there, because that HEX is the code for the current ship that you have listed. If this is the ship you want to change, then delete that HEX code and paste the new HEX into the space. In the upper left corner click file and "save", then at the same place click exit. Restart game *Po0F!* your ships appearance will change to what code you applied.
As I previously stated, it's best not to tinker, because some deeper settings can trash the game if one doesn't know what they are doing. And the biggest caution is this! This editor can save your butt in certain situations, BUT you have the power of a GOD and it will ruin your game. You can give yourself anything, if that happens, what is the point of playing anymore. The game is chill, it's not COD competitive. I can not stress this enough.
Part of me wants to redact all of this lol, but you want a purple ship and I delivered the tools. So with all knowledge use it wisely.
You cannot change your ship in any way except in slot increases and class increases. There is rumor that the devs are working on this though. If and when you can start editing you ships, I would imagine no man's sky coordinate exchange would be obsolete. I can't complain. Anything that reminds reddit that it is still useless is a plus from me.
Data miners found evidence of incomplete ship repaint code about 2 years ago I think. The project appears to have been shelved. I wager it was shelved because it would make coordinate sharing obsolete and HG doesn't want to kill that community.
Personally I would like to have ship repainting, but I do not expect it to happen.
Thanks to clarify, so it's not in the game yet. It would be huge if they add it, it's also on top among the requested features I think.
It's not necessary at all, but it'd be a bit of fun.
