Derelict freighters are a nightmare.
So I pay my 5 mil and get to my first derelict freighter. It's dark inside I can't see a thing, so I turn up my monitor brightness to full. The are a load of boring logs to read, the loot is all junk, I pick up better laying around on a planets surface. Every time I shoot my gun I find myself out in space, shoot again and I'm back inside.
In the end either my game bugs out or it's part of the game but I disappear and shrink down to the floor. I had a hard time getting back in my spaceship.
This is by far the worst experience I have had in no mans sky. A waste of credits and a waste of my time. Di d the dev's not get around to finishing derelict freighters or are they just crap regardless?

Never had any of that happen. Usually it's just a nice little mini dungeon for quite a lot of good loot. Might want to verify your files, go to another system a ways away and try again.

I won't talk about bugs.
Side infos:
- you get a free beacon in the Anomaly once a week (reset Monday, server time).
- In space stations it's 5M then 10M etc up to a maximum price.
- 24h (7 days? I forgot) after the first beacon purchase of the day(?), prices reset and the beacon returns to 5M (the first one).

Note : Your first beacon is free, you dont have to buy it, the mission lead you to the NPC at the Anomaly.

At the little bugs that pour from the slime when you get to close to it.
I paid 5 million from the scrap merchant for a bit of kit that detected the freighter.

It is pretty much the only source of freighter upgrades.

As a bonus, you can get a decent amount of nanites from recycling all the slime.

The are about four things that are useful (aside from the obvious material gains) aboard derelict freighters:
1) Tainted metal (useful for a few decorations and nanites)
2) Decoration collectibles for your base
3) Freighter tech upgrades
4) Freighter cargo bulkheads.

Unfortunately, Since appr. the Aquarius update I've been having the same bug you described where, when firing a weapon, the interior freighter textures disappear and all I can see is space. It's gotten stuck like that once or twice and I had to restart the freighter entirely.

(One of the things I realy cant do in this game...Recycling the slime. I realy prefer the 250/3k nanites from the scans on a planet. )

i hope you have reported it on the zendesk... all weird glitches/defects like this should be reported... specifically to make sure HG is aware of the problem...

I just did a derelict (free ESS from Helios). No problems, same old routine. And don't forget the three Repair Kits you can pick up at the entrance!

Derelict freighters give some nice rewards that were already mentioned above. Not all of them have creepy crawlers. In fact, the majority are deserted. I enjoy them now and then. They don't take long to get through and I fast forward through the logs. A good diversion.

Most of derelict loot is mediocre and forgettable, - the only reason most people hit these quests repeatedly is for the freighter upgrade modules you get in the engineering section at the end of every freighter run. Once you get a freighter, you will have an immense upgrade task, and the only way is to get various upgrade modules either from crashed freighters, freighters you pirate yourself, or from derelicts. Derelicts are probably the most reliable and easily repeatable way to accumulate all the upgrade modules you'll need.

Certain derelicts always give "S" Class modules, so experienced players don't want to fish out of random freighters, as you have done. Look at online lists to identify which freighters are both easy runs and give out "S" class freighter upgrade modules. Freighters are unique to each star system, just like the exotic ship spawns, so find the systems that have the "S" Class freighter mods and run through to the end to collect the freighter modules.

The derelicts work best in first person mode. Not even sure they can be done in third person, but it would be a lot more confusing. Once you do one, you can pick up a free pass once a week from an NPC in the anomaly. (So don't sweat the $5M. It is actually chump change as you progress in the game)

Report the glitch to Zen Desk. You should not pop in and out of the derelict as you describe. That is what made me post my comment about FP versus TP view. Never seen that happen, but I do remember there were problems for folks who tried to run it third person when it was first introduced.

The derelicts have about a half dozen, maybe more, scenarios. Best to try it in a new system each time if you want to see more variety. My understanding is you get the same scenario if you always play it in one system.

As noted, you can pick up a cargo bulkhead or a choice of a couple of other "prizes" by doing them. The derelict scenario appear to be a homage to Dead Space.

Bug spray in order, I guess 🤔 😂

At max economy difficulty, they cost :nmsunits:8.3M each (doubling each time within 24 hours) :)
Even at :nmsunits:5M they often don't return a profit. That's really not their point.

As Mr B says, even 5M is chump change pretty quickly. The real reward comes at the engineering station at the end to upgrade your Freighter (although since shipbuilding was added I have also received Starship Reactors instead).

Of course, with the Guild buffing, collecting the Crew Manifest and Captain's Log are also now useful for more than just trading for scrap metal (at least until you max your guild rep x 3).

As for the textures bug, I would verify game files first, then report to Zendesk if it persists.

As for the bugs, not every derelict has the bug nests. Some will only have the green jellyfish, some will have security bots.
You can actually sneak past all the bug nests by using your analysis visor or using a cloaking device and they'll never burst

There are quite a few things that annoy me about derelict freighters.

1) make you super slow

2) having side doors, but with no worthwhile loot making them wasted space that players ignore

3) putting some log snipets in places designed to ensnare the player 'E' command, and force you to read it, like the one placed right on top of a blue chest.

4) not having a dialect 'skip' for consoles and log snipets

5) too many worthless green freighter modules pop out sector after sector after sector to punish players for not choosing bulkhead, which is actually useful.
